Lite-Flite

It was a gift, but I found it online for $27.95

Dificulty: 3 (Because there are things you have to-do right in front of people without them seeing it.)
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Review

This thing was disappointing to me, and I didn’t even pay for it. The good thing is I got some IT out of it. It come with three effects: The main trick and two “bonus” tricks (which I liked better than the main effect.)

1) Lite-Flite: This effect, the for which this product was named, was my least favorite. It looks too much like a gimmick to me. Basically what the specs will see is a little pulsating orb flying around your body as you manipulate it without touching. The whole style of this effect seams too garish and too obvious.

2) The Helicopter Card: You’ve all seen this. I think David Blaine does it, as well as others. The card is thrown from one hand and pins in the air in a fantastic way, only to return to your body and be caught in the opposite hand.

3) The Floating Dollar Bill: This is one which I use, though I do not utilize the suggested preparation for the trick. It’s good, and not too obvious. Thought this is a good effect, it is hardly worth the whole product just to have someone tell you how to do something you probably could have figured out yourself anyway.

Overall

I hope I haven’t sounded too harsh ;) I really am not a sour person. I give this thing a 3/10. Just buy IT and use your imagination.

Thanks for your observations, I saw this demoed in Blackpool over the past few days and I agree with you - it's not very impressive. Most folks would immediately guess that there's something holding the card up and I'd class it more a a gag than a Magic effect. There again, I suppose in the hands of someone who's really thought about a routine with the item it could look very good!

Hi Jeremy and Mandrake (how are you Mandrake - long time!)

I love this effect and get great reactions from it. The hook-up is quite special and the spinning action you can put on the ball always gets an ooohh when i perform it.

Performed with the right lighting and the right music this can be a beautiful piece of magic.

Give it another try Jeremy - it's worth it (in my humble opinion  )

All the best

;) lost the ball, or maybe I would.

But I use the other stuff all the time so all in all I am really glad I got it. I think it was more of a stylistic conflict than anyhting else.

I just cant see how people justify selling a bit of cotton for 27 dollars.
I should become a dealer.

Mandrake - you went to Blackpool! You lucky lucky man!

Dale - I don't think you pay for just the IT. You get the unique hook up which is different to Le Clairs (don't know about the fearson hook up), the routine (+ extra routines) the ball and bits need for it to light up.

It's like most magic isn't it - you pay for the routine / secret - not just the props you receive

What is one persons treasure is another one's rubbish. The internet can certainly help making decisions. For those of you that haven't seen the effect check out the demo here http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=163

Thanks for the link - it could be that the one I saw was a different item. It was playing card size and shape and the guy demoing it just flicked it with a finger to make it spin and then it floated around in and out of the hands like the Penguin vid but it was clearly two lights - one at each end - and it needed flicking every so often to keep the rotation going. I would hazard a guess that it uses the same principles as the 'body movements' are identical. Or I could be totally wrong!

I used to perform this a lot. It was great fun. There was a video on it too when it first came out. I would have the ball float into my mouth and end with it going into my shirt pocket.

It's a great trick but I recomend keeping the routine short and sweet.
