Presto Printo

Postby katrielalex » Mar 13th, '05, 17:57

Hi again!

I was looking around on Penguin, and I noticed an effect by Daryl called "Presto Printo". Is this done the way I think it is (i.e. are there any card forces involved)?

If so, how are the reactions? It looks cute, but it's almost double the price of a standard packet tricks and I would think twice before spending more tnen $20 on any one trick (especially remembering that I could almost get two for that price).

Any opinions?

Thanks a lot!

Kati

katrielalex,

Yes Presto Printo involves a force.
Any force will do.
And, apart from a Flustration count that's the only "move" in this routine.

It's a Wild Card effect that leaves you clean at the end.
It's very amusing (especially in Daryl's hands) and simple to do.
I agree that it's quite expensive, but I think it's well worth it.
This is one routine that you WILL use. And regularly.

One of my favourites.....

Hi Kati,

I know that this post is old now but did you get Presto Printo?

If so, how did you find it?

Hey, Dat -

I know you asked Katrie, but I thought I'd offer my two cents.

It's a great effect. I was actually surprised. I initially figured this purchase would be geared more towards younger spectators, but was happy to find that EVERYONE reacts strongly to the effect.

Also, it should be noted to all, that you can purchase a new set of presto printo cards directly from Daryl's site http://www.foolerdoolers.com/store/default.asp, so the effect can be repeated.

It's definitely worth the purchase. Personally, I'd find an older version (the newest one comes with a dvd, but is more expensive) - work out the handling, and adapt the trick to your style. you save yourself almost half the price and the effect is still killer.

Thanks Guys - could someone post a link to the Daryl video, or is it on one of his DVD's?

I''ve looked at the site and couldn't see it there.

Also, do you know if these are exclusively red backed cards or are they available in blue? I ask as I have a preference for using blue decks anyway and think that they will fit in nicer.

Thanks again

They're not "backed" at all - they're blank backed :?.

Presto Printo is an excellent trick and very entertaining. Any force will do really. My version is the ten of spades with red backs.

Presto Printo is a really good effect. I find it really useful to do in bars etc. as it is such a visual stunner, that people can watch and enjoy it without having to concentrate too much (sometimes a good thing if they have had a few sherries!)

My set too is a red back with the 10 of spades. In fact all the people I know who have the effect have got the same cards. Is there another version available? I am asking really as I always use Blue bikes for all my other effects... Anyone got any different card versions?

As far as I know, it is only offered for red backs. I'm assuming because in a stage-type show - the double exposure card would be too difficult to see if the back was blue.

Thanks Dimitri, I'd though that this would be the reasoning with using red backs buit it's always worth asking.

I've ordered and can't wait for it to arrive.

Arrived yesterday and after about 45 minutes watching the accompanying DVD I was ready to go.

I performed four or five times today and the reactions have been mixed but at least everyone liked it. Mostly reactions in the 7 or 8 on a scale of 1 to 10.

I love it! Recommended and that to those of you that posted on this.

I'm happy to hear you're enjoying the effect. The reactions will only get better as you keep performing.

A few quick pointers -

I've found the effect hits a bit harder, if you make sure to REALLY stress that the cards are blank. There's a number of ways to show this (I'm sure if you bought Daryl's DVD version he can show you killer methods). If you really nail this point home, people will be FREAKED.

This might not be an issue at all for you - but when I first started performing this, I would tend to rush through it. Mostly this was due to my worries that a grabby spectator would start reaching. Since that hasn't happened, I've found that slowing down your pacing can build the effect more. Don't DRAG it out, but just make sure each revelation sinks in before moving on.

For a personal touch, I like to involve the spectator during the effect (this is helpful since the effect is longer than most). For instance, the "smear" card - instead of doing it myself, I hand the card to the spectator to examine, then once they BARELY grasp the card, I pull it back quickly, saying "Wait - I should let the ink dry" then reveal the smudge. You can usually extend it by talking about how the ink evaporates on contact with human skin or that sort of thing.

Hope these help. Again - this is a great packet effect. Enjoy!

Hi Demitri and thanks for the tips.

I'm performing as you suggest and am emphasising the blank cards. I have no problems with the count and was intrigued with the alternative handling of the blanks on the DVD (I won't even begin to try and spell the name of the Japanese magician that the move appears to be named after  ).

I torn between the two as to which looks best from the specs perspective as both are effective.

Your advice on the smudge card is great and I'll give this a try out. I've replaced the white paper envelope with an electrostatic bag that a is used for packing computer components. I make a play on this 'radiation proof bag' as the cards are photo-sensitive. I've found that this is a little more convincing. You could use a foil wrapper that you get photo paper or inkjet printer cartridges in.

I have to say that I was worried about grabby specs but haven't had one as yet. Maybe it's the age group that I perform to :?:

RADIATION PROOF BAG! - CLASSIC!

I am SOOOOOOOOOO stealing that!

Just kidding - but I'm definitely going to try that out. I'll even even say my good friend Dr. Dat hooked me up with the samples!

Glad that you like it Demitri

I've been doing this during the past week and two people have asked, believe it or not, where they can buy a bag of the black photo cards from.

Feel free to use as you like but I'd be interested to hear of the reactions that you get.
