Small hands are a disadvantage but I've yet to see anyone whose hands are too small to palm cards. It's just about technique.
The best way to get started in card magic is to buy yourself a copy of Hugard and Braue's The Royal Road to Card Magic or Giobbi's Card College. Both are available from Magic Box as wel las other places.
Royal Road is cheaper as CC is multi-volume and hardback, but much more comprehensive. I'd recommend getting the Royal Road and seeing how you get on with it before committing too much cash. It has a chapter on palming.
People here tend to be very helpful with any questions or problems you might have, but they like to see people post to the Introductions forum when they first register. Also check out Seige's sticky post in that forum.

The problem is that many new magicians try to start with effects that are far too advanced. Making cards fly takes a lot of practise. The Royal road to card magic recommended above is excellent. I used this book.

You want to start off just practsing the same sleight over and over again, for hours at a time. Always try to practise infront of a mirror. Once you have mastered that then move on to the next sleight. Some people make the mistake of trying to learn lots of different techniques at once.

Go for something simple like the glide to begin with, then move on to controling a card while dealing. Later try something like the Emlsey. Save palming until much much later.

wow...you're getting a PSP.

I wish I were so lucky.

I have to make do with a PC. And a slow (1.2 GHz) one at that!

Amazon sell it: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASI ... 06-5777444

However, saving up and going for something like the Card College Series may be a better bet as Royal Road's instructions are sometimes seen as difficult to understand.
