Bill switch and improving paper durability

Postby neil_the_newbie » Aug 27th, '13, 21:21

Okay - I'm having a go at learning a bill switch and have purchased some 1 Million pound notes from an Amazon store. Does anyone know of a process for making paper more durable as I am doing the Cinch bill switch which is done quite quckly and the £ million pound notes tear easily. Any help much appreciated. :D

The paper these novelty notes are printed on is usually not the best quality and will (as you've noticed) tear very easily. The switch you've chosen requires heavier paper due to the way it is snapped open for the reveal and to help hide things (you'll know what I mean).

Why don't you start with a piece of paper and end with a real note ? Or change one note into another ? Real money is printed on paper which has cotton fibres embedded, giving it strength.

If you really want the million pound note ending you could purchase some cotton enriched paper (you'll find it on the net) and try printing your own using a scan of the ones you have. These would be much more durable.

Forgot to ask - are the novelty notes just for practice, or are you planning on using these for an actual performance ?

If they're just for practice then you could just use paper instead. It won't matter what's printed on it if its just for practice purposes.

If you are planning on using these as the ending to a transformation effect then I have two pieces of advice depending on whether you are going to be handing them out at the end or not. I shall explain my reasons more fully if one of these is your intention, but basically if you're not handing them out I recommend you use a different switching method, if you are I suggest you re-consider using a real note as your ending.

Of course if its for a comedy routine or for a kids show then my advice won't apply.
