Where do you find tricks (for close up) like the stuff Nigel Mead was doing on the channel 4 tv show earlier this week?

The tricks that Nigel did are all quite advanced.

The coin under watch routine- i got the imformation from a close-up book and have been using this in bookings for ages.

The polo mint is really hard

My best advice is to look at close-up magic books and DVDS. If you can tell me what your skill level is, then i can advise you a bit more.

I have a list of good books but the are dependent on certain skill levels and experiences.

I am a good beginner or fledgling intermediate I guess. I learned many good card tricks from Royal Road & Mark Wilson. I haven't mastered a good enough pass yet but seem to get by using a double cut or false shuffle. I learned some entertaining tricks from Mark Leveridges Strolling Magician and techniques from several mainstream publications. I bought Bobo's Modern coin magic but have had it stolen from my car.I learned a few coin tricks from that but struggle with a classic coin palm. I can entrtain friends & colleagues with some good routines but everything seems to be 'classic' and although a good principle grounding not the knock 'em dead close up that the pro's use. I did buy Mark Elsdons Trivial persuit trick but not had the opportunity or guts to try it yet. I fear too many gimmicks as friends and coleagues want to examine stuff and I need to be clean.
I'd read about Daryl's Fooler Doolers DVD on this site and thought that it sounded very entertaining.

Hmm. Ok, if you like the nigel mead stuff. Then you may want to check a dvd called "Corporate closeup" by Martin Sanderson. This has a great coin under watch routine. It also has a bill in Kiwi routine that is really good.If you have the budget then you may want to look at getting either a flipper coin or a miracle coin unique (some people like scotch & Soda). You can do many great routines with these coins and the are fairly easy to use.

The miracle coin unique is made in (£1 - 1p and £2.00 -2p) versions. I use both but the £2.00 - 2p is more visual. The coins range from £28.00
to £38.00.

Fooler doolers is excellent, well worth buying. If you want to get into all the floating stuff then you may want to wait a while. It can be very hard to learn some of the routines. The are a series of Videos by Michaeal ammar that cover all that kind of stuff

Cheers! I checked out the DVD and it looks great. I'l treat myself after Daryl. I can't find a £2 / 2p con unique though. They all seem to be £1 / 1p. My local magic shop said they no longer do them but I wasn't sure if that was because he only had the others. Any ideas?

Alakazam have them...

http://alakazam.co.uk/acatalog/Alakazam ... _5_42.html

(or alakazam.co.uk and look for coin unique)

But they are 35 quid a go.. which is a lot, but if you use it and are really into this then it's probably worth every penny..

Oh.. and they still have stock (well they did last week when I ordered mine)

Cheers, that's the one I'm going to plump for. It's pricey but I'm sure it will be worth while. I like coin magic as it's so accessible. I bought a 10p version Okito Box recently for a ring trick that I read but the instructions assumed that you knew the Okito moves (which I didn't)and the box didn't come with any. But I popped into my local magic shop (Looney Bin) and searching through all the pamphlets I found a great one by Mohammed Bey (never heard of him). It has two Okito master routines and a bunch of other moves and ideas (great value for £4). It even suggest an improvement on Bobo. I love it. I'm practicing it constantly.

And because they are so expensive....maybe you should consider keeping all (if you buy more) your gimmick coins in a separate little coin bag away from your other change! You can spend them by mistake and that works out expensive.......£35 for an hours parking is a lot!!! :)

I keep mine in a plastic bag from the bank (cheapass that i am) and then when i use them i take them all out of the bag and designate a 'pocket' in my trousers or whatever so i know they are separate and not spend them, but then it looks to the specs as if it were just loose change hanging around!

I've done the same myself. I have a folding 10p which I have panicked about several times and found it in with my change!

i don't use uk coinage at all, first it gives you a chance toexplain that us coinage is softer and a practised magician can roll it into a tiny ball and hide it so it apears invisible.
second uk coin tricks are far to expensive coin unique £35 scotch and soda £10 (yes i know there diferent but they do the same job ok).
thirdly most of the media out there asumes your useing us sized coinage or old english pennys (buyer beware a sterling product usualy mean a old english penny not uk coinage).

if you want to do a trick with coins us magic coins, your audience will be predisposed to accept the trick, i mean have you ever done coins across with 10ps its just not belivable.

I must admit that US coinage is bigger and (I find) easier to use. I have 5 half dollars which I do use. I always (assume) that peope will accept UK coinage but suspect that if I am using US coinage that it is a gimmick. I did have a copy of Bobo which I lost in a car break in (even theives like magic!). To learn some good coin magic what source would you say is best? Also I'm not certain what the difference is between S & S and unique?

I use old silver half crowns for my coin magic, I got them from the worn box at my local coin shop I think they cost me 50p each they look great are quite soft and work a treat!

The older generation remember them and the younger generation are curious as they have probably never seen them! So they create interest on all counts and they are a nice looking coin and are slightly bigger than an old British Penny! :)
