Welcome to the boards. There are many great shops in the Uk, just do a search.
The most commonly asked questions by beginners!
1.Where should i start?
The simple answer is from the beginning! you want to start with a good magic book such as 'Mark Wilson's complete course in magic' and follow that through. Don't try to run before you can walk, you will not be performing 'Sam the Bellhop' straight away. Begin by learning some basic card and coin sleights. This will open up many possibliites for you. Many cheap books and DVDs have great self-working card tricks. An example is the Micheal Ammar series 'Easy to master card miracles'
Many beginners think you need to learn lots of sleights to perform magic, not at all. You will eventually learn a lot but you will be suprised by how many card tricks you can learn just by learning a few basic card sleights.
There are also many cheap little booklets on magic. These can be picked up for only a couple of pounds
Remember that all you magic heroes started the same way.
Once you have learnt some basic techniques then you will be able to move on to the more advanced work.
2. What tricks should i learn?
I am going to say, just get a deck of card, some normal coins and learn some tricks using them. When you get a bit more confident you may want to progress to the self-working card tricks (e.g. Cheek to cheek). There are many good self-working card tricks, far too many to list here.
Remember that you do not need to spend lots of money at magic shops. I started with a book, a deck of cards and some normal coins. You may want to learn a few simple tricks to build a act to show friends.
3. how do i practise?
You want to try to devote a few hours per day to practising. It is better to learn one trick at a time. Master that and then move on to a another trick. Practise in front of a mirror or film yourself. You then get to see what the audience see.
4. I need to perform to an audience but i don't know what to say when i perform?
Patter can be a hard issue for some people. Best to think about what you are going to say before you begin to perform. Can you make up a little story to go with the trick. Altough many tricks come with patter suggested i like to make up my own.
I am sure other people will help you but if you need any more help then please PM me but bear in mind that i will NOT give away any secrets. Have fun
