hi all
first of all let me start with...great forum, i just know its going to help me immensly

im a full time dad that works part time as an ict tecnician at the school my wife works at, (she earns more money than me, so i dropped to part time to look after my baby son):)

anyway, on the bus on saturday on the way into town for some beer, i got talking to a fella who did a couple of magic tricks, these stunned me, especially the note and pen trick, (maybe it stunned me more as i had had a few beers) its not very often i can drink with a baby around....god bless grandads for the odd night out!!!

i just had to find out how this man did those tricks, and now im hooked, ive ordered loads of tricks on ebay, the first of which came today, coin unique......i performed it at school today and people were amazed, i know im going to need loads of practice to perfect things, but it still looked good...especially with the coins on the table and the glass over them:)

ive just ordered the raven, but there is no way im going to try this on people until ive practised a lot

anyway, im probably booring you all now

but im getting a good feeling about this that im going to really enjoy myself

im getting that fimbling feeling!!!!! oh my god!!! thats too much childrens tv for you....bloody fimbles!!!

welcome to the forum

just abit of advice, stop ordering the tricks and get a good book or dvd in the area that interests you.

i started like you and it can end up very costly, you dont need all those gadgets to amaze people, just a pack of cards a few coins or a pen and a peice of paper.

good luck

Hello and welcome. I'll reiterate what has been said, a little reading first is the best way to start out and that's certainly a worthwhile book to have a look at. It was the first book on the subject I ever read actually.

Yes I think you have to be careful when you start out - you don't want to know too much too soon I guess. What I mean is try to master a few tricks before you move on because if you try too many, you'll find yourself at a stage where you can't do any properly and will have to start on the basics again - that's what happened to me...

I know it's tempting to own every single trick, but the best ones are often ungimmicked so don't buy furiously...

mines only 17 months old, so by the time he is 4 or 5 i might be able to pull a couple of tricks off, but i also works at a school, so loads of kids to impress there:)

Don't be fooled by the fact they are kids... After a certain age they are very curious and if you manage them poorly they might ruin your effects by reaching in unexpectedly...

Audience management (whatever the age) is a very important part of performing...

Just a word of advice...

the thing about magic is that the answer to tricks is sometimes so obvious that we don't think about it... but kids do!

A big welcome to the boards. Don't fall in the trap of thinking you need to buy lots of expensive gadgets and props to begin in magic

I am sure it's been said already, if you buy a few good books you will save loads! Later when you gain a bit of knowledge you might want to part with some hard earned cash on a trick or two but at least then you will have a better idea what tricks are right for you!

Welcome to TM..... :)
