Gaff decks/cards etc?

Postby Concept82 » Jan 25th, '14, 18:21

Hey, I don't use any gaffed cards or decks or anything. I've just been practicing various sleights for a few years.

Just wondering what is the most powerful gaffed card/deck/revelations that you've seen. If there was something really good I'd consider bringing it with me when out and about when doing close up card magic to friends etc.

Just curious on any recommendations really, so any help much appreciated.

Thanks again.

Brainwave deck, always goes down well.. Or maybe a stripper deck, which really makes you look like a las Vegas, casino croupier. 8)

As far as Gaff decks go, you really can't go far wrong with an ID/Brainwave Deck.

I've always had a really soft-spot for the Svengali Deck.

With a decent routine, it really is a killer!

Have a look at Encyclopaedia of Card Tricks, which has complete chapters covering the more useful mechanical packs and special cards, and Amateur Magician's Handbook, which has less detail but includes more types.

I'd say the Stripper pack is probably the most versatile, because you can use it as a normal pack - plus.

Given a Desert Island Discs choice, I'd go for a double backed or faced card.
But I do love the Svengali Deck also!

I'd say an ID or a Brainwave

Though personally I have a soft spot for a pop eyed popper

Custom R&S decks made to specification - PM me for details

Other then the ones mentioned I do tend to work the use of a marked deck into routines

Derren Brown convinced me to buy a 'mind power' deck - Allows for a freely selected card (merely thought of by the spectator) to vanish from the deck and appear anywhere you like (I have an envelope in my wallet which has been on the table to whole time)

Pop-eyed Popper is one of the cleanest card forces anyone could ever wish for.

Quite like what I've seen of menetekel decks, though I've never used one.

Reverse Svens have their uses too. There's an excellent ACAAN by David Britland hidden about his blog somewhere.

then the only thing left is the method.

Agree about the pop-eyed popper! So good I invented it (decades after someone else did). :-)

Totally biased that I am, I'm going for a combination of stacked stripper deck and ID.

Please do elaborate ... I can see maybe 1 use for it, but might be blind about how awesome this could be :)

I would point you towards "stripped and stacked" by Jon Thompson ;-)
