Hot shot cut

Postby Ninja » May 13th, '05, 20:23

Alright, so I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this. I can do the cut fine, but the only thing is shooting the card out. I can't get it to shoot out properly. Any tips?

We'll need a bit more detail. What's going wrong? I'll post a video in the File Sharing forum and see if that helps :)

When I shoot it out of the deck, it doesn't spin properly, it kinda flips over. I get it to spin properly some times, but I can't really get it down for some reason.

Actually, I have the same problem here. I cut the deck, then slide out the card to 90 degrees, but when I flick it over it either flips onto the deck or just sort of flops out of the deck to the floor.

I just gave up and I do it as a rising card (pick a card, spread cull, hot shot cut, make their card rise). The rising isn't impressive but it still looks nice if you make sure of the angles.

I can do FISM Aces though :)!.

Ok, the video is here.

If the card is just "flopping out" then you probably haven't got the card out far enough. Unfortunately it's not enough to just get it to 90 degrees.

you need to pull/slide the card out of the deck so that there is only a quarter of the card left in the deck. See the picture below for what I mean(Sorry about the rubbish quality but you should be able to get the idea). Also the flicking finger rests on the edge which is closest to you (again, see picture) and lightly pulls up and back, as if it were simply curling over the rest of the deck. Incidentally that's how the flicking finger should end; curled over the rest of the deck.

All the best,

Awesome, curling the finger onto to pack makes it work almost every time for me now! Thanks a lot man!

Wow! That works!

Thanks Goldfish :DDD!

I guess the trick was a) curling the flicking finger and b) not flicking so hard...it's only a gentle movement.

Daryl's Encyclopedia of Card Sleights (I'll let you figure out which volume, seeing as they are all worth having in your library  )

It is on volume 8.
Which i just got off the shelf again the other day.
I'd almost forgot how awkard this one can be.
I always find when learning moves like this it is easier to start off with half a deck first then 3/4 and then with the full deck after you got the knack
