They Say:
A specator chooses any number of dissimilar objects (usually around seven) and lays them in a row. A second participant looks over the group of items and jots down the name of one of them on a piece of paper. The first person is instructed to make several choices concerning the items. Half of them are eliminated, then a couple more are discarded. Finally, one object remains and it matches the item the second person chose before any objects were removed!

This is an incredibly powerful effect. You'll have to hear the gasps of amazement and see the sparkle in the eyes of your audience for yourself.

I say:
This is Docc Hilfords exploration and specific uses and scripting for the underrated "Magician's Choice".

What can I say...it's really good. This guide gives you a potted history of this stalwart technique and offers Docc's incredibly effective method and ultra-clever scripting.

The marketing description suggests you are buying a trick when infact you are buying a methodology that will serve you forever. This is seemingly simple stuff but only because Docc Hilford and others have spent a great deal of their professional career perfecting this...now it is being shared with us.

If you are a serious mentalism performer and want a simple but detailed, exacting and confidence building breakdown of this beautiful technique...you MUST have this booklet.

Rating: 8/10 It's price is a bit steep for a 27 page A-5 booklet, but you know what? I'm proud to own it and if that price puts some people off this professional bit of literature, that's fine...all the more wonder for me!

I feel equivoque as a method is seriously under utilised, possibly because if used badly it can be extremely obvious. However if used correctly it is one of the most powerful tools a mentalist has.

So therefore, although a booklet written on the subject is not going to be a bible of mentalism, it would in my oinion be a gospel, and if someone like Tom is recommending it, then it is good enough for me.

£17 though? It is a bit steep isn't it...

Is that mindreading training or something?

I have heard people say that a magicians choice is far too obvious, and if done as is described in many of the very basic publicly available magic books I have seen I would agree. This is whereI originally came accross the idea and it didn't take long to improve it slightly but I would certainly be interested to see further work on it as I currently only use it to three iterations and would like to get some hints on getting further.

Docc actually provides his scripting and he suggests that one uses it (pretty much verbatim) to help smooth some of the bumps we can often encounter while using this method. The scripting really is comprehensive and powerful.

The physical aspects and subtleties brought into the mix in this booklet are also very subtle but powerful.

There isn't HUGE amounts of methodology or words to learn and that was refreshing. The main points are addressed directly via scripting and by example in a hypothetical (classic) performance of the method. The theory behind all of the scripting and physical elements are also dealt without waffle and "flumpff". I found it to be wonderfully reassuring and inspirational....simple as it may be.

How does it compare with the Max Maven booklet or the work on the Magician's Choice done by David Berglas (described in his recent book)?
