Ok, so we all know the one big secret of magic.

 PRACTICE

But are there any secrets to doing so?

I don’t really set myself any goals as I’ve heard some people do, its just simply that if I have half an hour to spare I’ll play with a few coins or something.
About the only practise routine I do have is that once I have the mechanics of a trick worked out in my head I try and perform it whilst watching TV which basically means I’m concentrating on something else more than what I’m doing. Not sure if its for real or just in my head but I seem to have developed more confidence and flow during the “special moves” since I started doing that.
So, I was just wondering if other people have any particular tactics or routines when it comes to practising the arts or if there are any tips or tricks to make your practise more worthwhile.

Great question, Im looking forward to seeing some of the more experienced guys answers to this as I am very new to magic and have found that practising and how to practise are questions that i often ask myself.

So far, yes, it has been practising card sleights while watching Tv!

Thanks

If you have a video camera then just set it up and do the trick in front of that. Or even a mirror.
My theory is that though it's good to practice the mechanics of a trick while watching TV and smoothing it out with your hands (ooer is that a double entendre?) if you don't get a little practice in front of a mirror you may not pick up on any bad angles. that a certain trick may have.
