This is an illogical question since both effects are totally different from one another.
The shell game, is a guessing game in which the spectator guesses which shell the pea is under.
Secret Manipulation is bought into play, to ensure that the audience is always wrong.
In the cups, they are aware that the ball moves from cup to cup, always under the magicians control.
It may be true, as I have suggested before, that the cups derived from the shell game, or vice versa.
But as they are now…Totally different.
