Unfortunately I gave up on that programme being a source of entertainment many years ago - I'll have to see if I can watch the show on catch up!

He won't be what Simon is looking for .................. A cash machine. It will be a singer or a dancer in the end. However Darcy has done extremely well by getting to the final. I don't mean to be condescending by that remark.

a magician of darcy's type can be a massive cash machine, tours, TV specials etc.! the possibilities to make a profit is endless. even if darcy doesn't win I strongly hope a dance or singing act doesn't win. I want a comedian, instrument player anything but dance or singing. problem is the uk don't regognise a good magician, juggle, acrobat etc.

They recognise a good act fine; after all, they're the ones able to judge it.
The thing is, they, on average, prefer a dance / singing act.

I disagree, how many famous sword swallowers or jugglers can u name.
probably a few if even any
my point is I I said to you judge a cross stich contest you wouldn't be able to because you don't know enough to judge what is good and what is bad.
the british public don't prefer dancers and singers. its just everyone is familiar with a dancer or singer and don't realise the talent or skill involved in some variety acts take that young lad a few years back with the hoop. one of the most talented acts ever but put aside for a singer.

The talent or skill doesn't really have anything to do with it though. To take your example, cross stitch probably takes a lot of skill, but it doesn't make it entertaining to watch. the things the public want to watch are the things which they enjoy. From a performance/entertainment point of view, this does tend to be singers and dancers just now.

It's not about how good they are, its about how much people enjoy what they do.

Having said all that, I thought he was pretty cool. The illusion bit he did in the semi-finals didn't really grab me as much as his audition ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN1IT-4R5X0 for Mandrake ;) ). The dove act was edgy and fresh, the illusion just seemed a bit...samey.

I've said things like this a few times, but if the males judges made jokes about a female act taking clothes off it would be completely unacceptable. You wouldn't get the audience shouting for a woman to take her top off.

Ta, much appreciated! Not sure how a Canadian guy coming over specially for the show can count as 'Britain's Got Talent' but I'm sure someone will explain it to me. In the meantime, yes a very good act indeed.

I'd say it's pretty evident from the programming available on main channels that they do ;)
