Hi folks. I'm a 27 year old 'mature' student from Glasgow. A friend of mine gave me RRTCM for christmas, and i've been plugging away ever since. I've also recently bought Bobo's book- wow, I've got my work cut out for me! My last exam for this term is drawing ever closer, and I'm looking forward to a lovely summer of part time work and excessive practice. Hopefully by the end of it I'll be confident enough to actually show someone the odd trick.
I've browsed here as a guest recently, but feel as though that's cheating in some way, so here i am. Some of the stuff in the 'Tips and Support' section has been really helpful, especially that link to the Bobo study guide. I get the feeling that that's the section I'll be spending the most time in. I look forward to having my incredibly basic, stupid questions laughed at. Don't get too annoyed!

How nice to hear from a realist!

Welcome to the forum Dean, I'm a fan of RRTCM and am glad to find a fellow reader.

If I can be of any help (limited skills but can nod when asked if I concentrate) give me a shout.

Hope exams go well, look back on those easy days of study (they are once you've finished ask anybody about it - it's only the reality that's hard! - Oooh, bit like magic really).

Have a good summer,

Vic

Hi Dean, welcome to the forum....I am sure we will do no such thing! :)

Fire away, no matter how basic or stupid you think they are......remember the old chinese proverb...

He who asks a question...is a fool for five minutes....He who never asks is a fool forever....

Good luck with your study and I know there are many knowledgable people on the forum who will be more than glad to help in any way they can.. :)

Welcome to the forum Dean. You certainly have got two good books to be getting on with. If you can afford them (i know how hard it is being a student) get yourself David Roths DVD's (expert coin tecnique) as i think they are a valuble set to anyone wanting to learn coin magic.
Hope to read posts from you in the future.

Welcome to TM - wise words from JB (love the proverb - not heard that one before).

Thanks for making me feel welcome! It's good to see that snobbish elitism seems to be confined to the wrestling forums i used to visit.

I might not have much money, but the fact that people who seem to know what they're talking about have recommended the Roth dvd's means that I now feel compelled to get them as soon as, by hook or by crook.
I do feel that I need something to watch, as some of the moves seem a bit confusing in writing.
Thanks for the help folks. Speak to you all soon,
D

I have deleted all content of my posts (the rest of the usual silly stuff has been deleted by Mods but the original post contained a reference to wrestling and thus may help to explain later references to that aspect - of course, we don't care about that, we're only interested in arguing the toss!!)

There's more in common than you might think- issues of 'kayfabe', the distinction between 'marks' and 'smart fans'. Although at one time i would have tried to say everything in the world was somehow similar to wrestling (yes, I used to be a pure loser- thank goodness magic came along to save me!)

I can't think of a single thing that you might find in common between a wrestling forum and a magic one.

One of the Mods from over at Magic Bunny used to be a Pro wrestler.

Gary, Dat got in there before me but Ring and Ropes were my first thoughts

Of course, the ring is really square so we have the square to circle effect :o And having got to the square we have numerous magic squares 8)

Audiences are another similarity, and oh what joy, one of my teeth has dropped out :? Hey, aren't live performances the best :( bu**er and damn, guess I'll be ringing the dentist on Tuesday :? Pint in one hand and tooth in the other

Sorry, lost the plot a bit there  Talk about things going wrong mid stride :x Ah well, good excuse now to seek out the single malts 8)

Damn, you don't expect a tooth to drop out at midnight, just as well it wasn't in mid magic performing :?

But, yes, I'd have had an answer, 'So Sir, you picked the 10 of clubs, do you realise that card made my tooth drop out' says he, spitting said tooth onto the table  Now ain't that better than living in a block of ice :?

And wrestlers have a strange use for chairs - why not just hypnotise your opponent and then levitate him on a chair?

Much more entertaining than clouting him around the head with it...
