RRTCM vs. ECT

Postby katrielalex » May 30th, '05, 09:48

Hello again!

I've been looking at the reviews for both these books, and I was wondering what the main differences between them are.

From what I've heard, RRTCM covers the basics (DLs, controls, glimpses...things like that) and ECT is more advanced (false cuts, faro shuffles, palming). Is this correct? If so, I think I'll go for ECT...

EDIT: Just to clarify, ECT is Expert Card Technique not Expert at the Card Table .

Thanks again!

Kati

Kati,

I am unsure how you can compare the two books.....RRTCM was the first magic book I bought when I was 13 or 14, it's a great book and I still look in it today even though I have about 400 books and nearly half of those are card books.....

Yes RRTCM teaches what you say, card control, glimpse, DL, but it also teaches the classic pass, classic palm, flourishes etc, and I personally think that it is the only book apart from Erdnase that teaches the proper method of the Jog Shuffle....admittedly the patter is pure 1950s but some of the simple tricks in this book are pure class.....I still do Now You See it Now You Don't today and it kills.

ECT, is more advanced, where as RRTCM doesn't teach faro shuffles and riffle shuffles etc and ECT does....I personally like both books but have an affection for RRTCM.....I like it's style of teaching, I think some of it's effects are still good today....and as you can pick up both books in paper back for about £10 each why not get both and see if you like them.....

Funny I don't look at ECT with the same affection.....and have maybe picked it up once in the last year.......RRTCM, I pick up all the time to look through.....but that maybe personal preference.... :)
