fork bending... a load of "manure"?

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

As an aside to the fork bending, me and my friends all watch Uri when he's on the TV - rarely nowadays - and he has his forks out and he urges the viewers at home to shout "Bend! BEEENND!", we all shout "Prolapse! PROOOLAAAPSE!" But so far his pants would seem to remain unsoiled.

In the interests of science, would everyone like to join me on this, next time he's on? I'll split Randi's million dollars with all participants if it works!

Also, what does everyone think of the Gallerian Bend and Touching Bend products. I like GB, but got TB last night and I'm a little skeptical about that particular product.

IS that fork-U site serious? I don't get what is so impressive. These new agers must be desperate. Since the geller style bending has been 'exposed', it seems they have tried a new angle..."watch how i bend this fork with just my two hands...spooky eh!"

KARL BRAVOSKY ON METAL BENDING

Postby karl » Sep 7th, '07, 17:47

metal bending routines ,
I think the most important in bending routines, is to first to learn on how to bend
then you look for a routine
but as i use to say; WHY DONT YOU TRY TO MAKE YOUR OWN ROUTINE
so they remember you after ???

There are hundreds of ways for bending.
The most important is not HOW YOU DO IT, but THE FINAL VISUAL RESULT.

I have been bending for years, and try most of ways, for forks, keys, coins, spoons, and others, even try dummerque psy key, great item (actually very bad routine and presentation), wich i have used in my last press conference here in Rabat, for presenting to the press, my last stree publicity stunt:
TO STOP WITH THE ONLY HELP OF MY MIND THO BIG CLOCK OF THE POST OFFICE CENTRAL BUILDING OF RABAT.
(If someone whant a video send me your email adress)

You should have see those faces (the journalist) using there own keys and fork.

As i say: Kust use whats make you feel more confortable.
One you find a system that feets you, STIK TO IT

Concerning the routine, I can guarantie you that ones you foud the right system that make you feel good
The routine comme all on her own.
remember; TRY ALWAYS TO BE YOURSELF

hope this help

KARL BRAVOSKY FORK BENDING (and others) for Andy Regs

Postby karl » Sep 7th, '07, 17:56

AndyRegs, hi

You say;
"Since the geller style bending has been 'exposed', it seems they have tried a new angle..."watch how I bend this fork with just my two hands...spooky eh!"

Well i think andy, you shoul take the matter a bit more seriously.
If you send me your email, i will try to send you a small movie in witch I BEND A FORK AND A KEY by just placing them on a table
(not memory metals)

IMHO I'd go with "manure".

It's simply a group dynamic convincing themselves that they're bending cutlery by some mysterious force when it's really just an easily understood and known psychological process.

In essense, they make the cutlery pliant before even starting by "testing" it, then all chanting "bend" whilst applying a pressure. It is this "focussed inattention" as they call it that is indeed the key - they fail to realise that they are just creating the bend by normal, physical means as they're chanting. This is known as the ideo-motor response - "honest, intelligent people unconsciously engaging in muscular activity that is consistent with their expectations" (Hyman 1999).

Nothing magical, beyond being human.

GETTING BACK TO THE ORIGINAL QUESTION RE: PSI Parties...

We're talking MENTALISM 101 vs. the new Magic Tricks R'Us mode of working... in other words, OLD SCHOOL!

Stephan Minch spoke about this sort of PK Party nearly 30 years ago in one of his earlier compositions and the general idea of doing home Psychic Parties has been a constant in the real working world of the professional psychic entertainer since the 1920s or earlier... that is if we are to believe what we find in the works of Larsen, Nelson, Boarde, Mann and various others including more contemporary contributors such as Mark Strivings, Richard Webster and Docc Hilford.

Contrary to the thinking of the original poster, not everyone hosts as cynical a mind as "WE" (magic students) have learned to host. If that were the case we really wouldn't have a viable market to work in... especially when it comes to the Psychic or Surreal themed things that fall under the category of Mentalism.

Now, as most all of those folks I've named will warn you, doing these parties means you will get the rep for being a Psychic. If you cannot deal with that then don't do the parties and please, don't claim to be a real "Mentalist"... you are a stage performer. Mentalist in the real working world are frequently forced to deal with the home party market in order to cover the rent, not all of us can do steady corporate work and most of us aren't in the financial position to just 4 or 2 wall gigs across the country.

The Home Party Psychic Entertainer can readily pull in between $300.00 and $500.00 a night from direct admission + Back of Room Sales will add another 30%+ to that factor. If you are willing to do some serious footwork you can readily see a $2,000.00 + per week gross income by doing this kind of work... last I checked that's far more than the majority of those screaming that this is "wrong" and "deceptive" are making by holding to their convenient morality vs. learning how to use proper wordage in what you are selling when it comes to these parties and catering to the general public vs. the jaded culture you may surround yourself with.

I have done thousands of these parties with various themes; Horoscopes, PK, Dowsing, Communing with Plants, the Pet Psychic and Astral Projection being but a few. There are scripts to complete acts that will allow any one of you to do this kind of work that are sold in magic shops (especially the older brick & mortar stores). So it really boils down to if or not you have the guts to do the real work in the real world vs. limiting yourself by being a "magician".

I fully understand ethics, etc. I also understand how to ethically and carefully work around such things in that necessity and even opportunity will always outweigh the logic we wish to impose in and around this issue. The harsh truth being that most will never know the kind of "Night Club" and "Theatrical" working opportunities envisioned and if we are to actually work in our chosen trade we need to adapt be it dropping the idea of Mentalism and taken magic on in reprise and moving into the home market in that mode or else, embracing the idea of being a mentalist entirely and moving forward under the mantel of being either a Psychic or some kind of "Expert" within a field that is believable and viable within the community.

All going well, I'm going to be doing some FREE lectures in a couple of weeks that are essentially the Richard Webster INTUITION lecture. The ball rolling as it normally would, I will end up with several Home Parties as well as Private Readings and of course the related Workshop bookings. All in all this FREE Lecture will net me somewhere around $5,000.00 over a six to eight week period. That's not big money but it is a step in said direction and given the brief time investment behind it, a significant sense of resource that augments other income, which really is all I'm after.

Anywho... just a bit of perspective on the issue. I'm quite surprised I didn't see St. Lewis (as in Mark) making a comment on this in that he's well versed in the Home Psychic Party concept.

The good old tarot/psychic parties work a treat for me. I really enjoy them. Have tried to introduce PK parties similar to the ones advertised on the fork you site, but they just don't seem to take off in the same way as the tarot parties do.

I think that perhaps fork bending is viewed by the vast majority as a "trick" of some kind (they may not understand how exactly, but they know it's not genuine), whereas the tarot (or the crystal ball, pendulum or any of the old school occult sciences) are still held in high regard and are seen as essentially "real".

Well,well,well Mr Paul
After knoing what you do for living, i am very surprise of your answer on last one:

YOU SAY:
"I think that perhaps fork bending is viewed by the vast majority as a "trick" of some kind (they may not understand how exactly, but they know it's not genuine), whereas the tarot (or the crystal ball, pendulum or any of the old school occult sciences) are still held in high regard and are seen as essentially "real".

and then you go on saying:
"whereas the tarot (or the crystal ball, pendulum or any of the old school occult sciences, are still held in high regard and are seen as essentially "real".

I hope this is a joke Paul
Are you seriously saying that The tarot, the crystal ball, the pendulum, bein part of the old school occult science, are seen as essentially "real" ???

The Tarrot and other type of... anyone with a bit of psycology, and sensitivity, and love for poeple, can do it. (ACTUALLY YOU DONt NEED THE CARDS AT ALL) anything else will do.... need just something to comunicate..?)
"
The most important in all those you call: "part of the old school occult science" is helping poeple to feel better i guess,
So If you feel "What they want to hear", and tell them, thats it.
Obviously then there are the other ones, the dangerous ones, the ones that make you comme back few times, (because a new "WORK" has to be made (at $... ?) You now what i meen.

Coming back to fork or metal bending, I am disapointed to see, that just you dont know a thing about it, you discriminate poeple WHO CAN DO IT FOR REAL.
And actually, this side of the game (metal bendings and other) are also consider by the POPULUS , as a "part of the old school occult science" .

YOU SAY:
"I think that perhaps fork bending is viewed by the vast majority as a "trick" of some kind (they may not understand how exactly, but they know it's not genuine), ..."

Well presented, with a good atmosphere, at the right moment...
and with a real good mystic presentation, any type of metal bending effect
can realy have psycological and devastating mental effect on poeple.

 Spend sometime with Lopsan Rampa. and come back to tell as again in few years.
