Re: Business Cards

a business card is a miniature poster advertising you and what you do and should be organised accordingly.
your card doesn't come across to me as a magician, a graphic usually helps here and also doesn't convey to me what type of magician you are, understanding Mexican would help with the wording which I can't but just on the visuals I would say corporate advisor possible engineering consultant.

different country's expect different styles for a business card, Americans, busy and colourful, Japanese, business like and factual, the card stock and lettering being much more important, hope this helps. :)

Well if less text is better then remove 'informacion de contacto'
I think most people will understand that those numbers are your phone number.

Also a email address from your own domain name eg magic@everelizade.com would be better than a hotmail email address.

I do have the backs of my cards printed, but there is still space for predictions / writing and OTL, etc.

I agree with the hotmail. For me, when given a hotmail account it sends up a red flag. All internet providers, provide email accounts (at least in the states and Canada) and usually allow you to have multiple addresses. And now you can get your mail from any device anywhere. Hotmail has a stigma attached to it. google is marginally better. But if you are a professional a hotmail account certainly says the opposite.

I don't like graphics such as cards or bunnies simply because it is so cliche. But the truth is that is only the magicians perspective. Most lay people have no idea. But I agree that there has to be something visual on the card that says magic for a few reasons.

First if I am an agent, either a general agent, or an agent for a company booking corperate events and your card blends in with all the others. I'm not stopping to look at it. If it is a cheap home made looking card, or tacky at all, I'm not looking at it. In fact if that is all I have from that person. I'm not looking at it. If I am booking corperate gigs I have an entire professional package, my business card would be inside that package, along with a sample of my tent cards, resume etc. Do these packages cost money? Yes, but if you are in business especially wanting corperate business then that is what you have to do. Well you don't have to do anything it depends on just how successful you wish to be.

Business cards should not be 'crowded' or odd shaped, or oversized. I hate when a magician hands me a business card, and the card is printed on playing card stock, or the size of a playing card. I can't stick it in my wallet. It doesn't fit in a normal business card holder. Sure it is cute (to the magician) but I can almost guarantee it winds up in the garbage when handed to an agent.

This all changes when you are not looking for the corperate accounts. The 'rules' change and you can be a little more lax. You don't need to get all fancy when all you are doing is making a little extra cash on the side, in that case word of mouth is usually enough. The logo of a top hat a wand or rabbit, or even a fan of cards is actually a good idea as it lets the average person know exactly what you are and what you do without any questions asked. There is a reason these logo's are popular with magicians, they work, despite how we feel about them.

I like the elegance of the design. Whehter or not the card needs to scream "magic" with rabbits in hats and playing cards probably depends on your market. To me, a red diamond suggests playing cards, but I grew up doing magic tricks and playing cards with my father and my maternal grandfather. A spade or club is more clearly a playing card suit than a red diamond (and a red heart does not suggests cards at all, by itself). However, the black suits wouldn't show up well on the dark blue background. You could change that, though.

I'm wondering if you could include two smaller red diamonds, to the top left and lower right of the big one already on the card, making the space between the "E"s look like an ace of diamonds. I am not sure how the ace is referred to in Spanish, but an alternative would be a small A in the top left and small (upside down) A in the bottom right of the space. That's even clearer.

I agree with the comments on things like a hotmail account and taking up space telling people they can contact you on your phone number.

So you are saying that i should take off the phone number of the card? only my email and my web site?

No, I was agreeing with the point Jing made:

I personally prefer minimalistic business cards. Small letters, minimum information (just the most necessary) and compact. Go with a style;)
