Try looking at how magic has been used in real life. The most interesting example is Jasper Maskelyne and how he used magic in the war.

"Hodge scored for Forest after 22 seconds - totally against the run of
play" (Peter Lorenzo)

have you added that its ok for a magician to con people but not for a criminal, should be good for a few pages also how religion used magic to enhance there sermons and cement there place in peoples minds you know water into wine and snakes from staffs.
how about the effect magic has had on the way we live and what we use today ie locksmiths needed to improve there lock designs when houdini proved they could be picked and a whole off shoot of the rope industry was born because magicians wanted a softer more managable rope, theres also anecdotal evidence that egyption magicians used batteries and crude light bulbs to produce ghostly lights.

Maybe you can write a bit about Don Bosco, the Patron Saint of Magicians.

Here is a link for more info. Very intersting. http://insidemagic.com/article_859.shtml

If it's a CDT/Technology/Woodwork project, you could ask a teacher to help you build a big illusion - think 'ZigZag lady' etc

Also, on the wordy style, Paul Curry's 'Magician's Magic' should help - there's loads of history in it.

Ask your library to find it for you... I'm sure they'll oblige.

Great idea, let's launch a Magic Limmerick contest - keep it clean and legal please!

First line:

' A certain Magican from Bristol....'

OK, over to you - add to or ignore as you see fit!

There's the idea that 'Magicians are the scientists of the Entertainment Business."

Maskelyne produced the first British typewriter in 1909.
The Russian guy who invented matches, was a magician.
...And there are all the magicians who invent tricks, and things!!
...and Pepper's Ghost!! that's a freaky illusion - That is cool to research, goes hand in hand with Dirck's Ghost - (which is the phenomena of when you see you reflection in a darkened window)

A certain Magican from Bristol....
Tried a Bullet Catch with a Flintlock Pistol...
As he pulled back the hammer...
In a whimsical Manner
he carefully took aim...
but the result was the same...
he shot off his foot...
and got covered in soot.
