Club section

It might be helpful to have a section for clubs and societies, perhaps by region?

This would enable newcomers to find out what is happening in their area and also help societies to post their programmes (especially non-member events for those not yet in them).

It would provide a useful function for those publicity officers in the clubs and would help people see which clubs exists for magic and which exist for the benefits of their (often small it seems!) membership.

Once set up, this might even be able to be self-running if each club was given the password to post on the upcoming events section. Just think - input and not too much TM effort for a valuable reource :-).

You could even set the timer so that they entries self-destruct after preset period so there's no need to visit with the vacuum!

Good idea, kind of, but that brings me in on another interesting part of this question, which is - do you we have a overview of number of users, and their locations?

I haven't found one. I've been looking at left hand columns and making notes of people near to me.

This would be helpful but might invade the privacy of people (unles an opt in directory could be set up),

Some forums allow you to view a member list. Then you just look or search for location, interests, age etc. I guess this should be possible? I'd be interested to know location of other users near me. If you don't want your details on the list, just don't enter it in your profile.

There is a member list but it was moved to the hidden area after we got so many complaints of spam/junk emails etc being sent to members. Once again, the bad boys screwed it for the rest of us.

A good source of details for clubs and societies is:

PS, As at 10.40pm 21/7/05, tbottom left hand section of the front page shows:

Our users have posted a total of 43322 articles
We have 2294 registered users

but bear in mind that many of those have only 1 or less postings so the figure for 'active' members is considerably smaller. At the start of the 'New Forum' there was a lot of weeding out of folks who'd registered but never posted so the total at that time was well under 1000 but probably more realistic.
