Barnsley Magic Day

Postby derek » Jun 10th, '05, 17:47

Anyone going to this on Sunday 12th? I'm following advice and making my first visit to an event at my local magic circle. Bit nervous because I haven't met anyone else interested in magic from the area but I'm looking forward to seeing what goes off and meeting people. Get the info from http://www.magicweek.co.uk There's dealers and lectures (Scott Creasey).

Or PM me so maybe we can meet up there. I'll let you all know my first impressions afterwards (I keep reading from you all how useful / interesting it is to get more involved ...)

See ya later

Barnsley's too far for me Derek - but have fun. These one day conventions usually are excellent.

Well, I went to my first magic day and I'm even more hooked and determined to practise than ever !!
As I said I was nervous because I knew of no-one else in my area, but had a great time and was welcomed by everyone I met. I feel I have already made friends, who will help me progress and learn in all sorts of magical ways. All the questions I asked were welcomed and answered with enthusiasm, however dumb they might have appeared to a more experienced magician, I guess. I bought a few little tricks, got myself into a video about one of the dealers doing some great tricks, and watched a new friend hammering a 6 inch nail up his nostril with my teaspoon while we ate lunch ! What more could I ask for on a Sunday afternoon in Barnsley !
Also saw Scott Creasey giving one of his lectures on close up magic and mentalism. Hearing the personal experiences of a working pro like Scott was fascinating and encouraged me even more. First thing I did on arriving home was to browse the internet for interesting close up tricks I can save up for but actually probably end up buying before I can really afford them !
So far I've just really been into learning basic card magic, but now I'm also inspired to try more varied stuff. Roll on the summer holidays (I'm a high school teacher) I'm dreaming already of the weeks of non stop magic practice.
Sorry for such a long post, but what I suppose I'm saying is this:
Thanks for all your enthusiasm which is rubbing off on me, and if you haven't already, go out and at least give it a go at your local magic society, I certainly will, and sure I'll be seen soon on Saturdays with the other guys down the magic shop in Sheffield.
Thanks for reading (if you've got this far), just guess I'm so excited about doing my magic now! You'll be hearing from me more in future on the forum.

Derek
