Geometric Prediction

Postby Johnny Bravo » Jun 10th, '05, 20:02

The Effect
A spectator takes a pack of cards, makes some random piles, two cards are randomly selected.
The spectator takes a circle and square medallion and puts one on each of the two cards.
Up to this point all have been done complete by free will of the spectator.
The magician (that’s you) opens a black wallet that has been on the table out in the open the whole time. The wallet is opened and not only are the only two cards in the wallet the same as the spectator’s but also one card has a circle cut out and the other has a square cut out exactly matching the spectator’s selection.

Cost
Around £8 on ebay.
Comes with 2 cards, 2 discs & instructions.

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Review
I'll start off by saying that this is a really great effect. The description (above) is correct with the exception that the spec doesn't make random piles, you control his actions. But the outcome is pretty foolproof & so far undetectable.

There are no sleights involved, although to convince more a fs might add that little bit extra. The deck before hand can be fanned/spread out & happily displayed.

The version of this trick I recieved came with two golden metalic discs (not brass hurrah) with the square & circle on them. Good quality.

This is one of those tricks that when you know the secret you can easily do it without the original props & in fact I've prepared a version with a £1 & 1p coins which (to my mind) adds as you can borrow them, leaving the only thing you have to carry are the two prediction cards.

The deck can be set up very quickly for this effect & you can go into any other trick with the deck after the effect.

If you do this using the props you have to be careful with your angles if your surrounded & you can't allow the prediction cards to be examined, however there is an easy way to get round this with both angles & examination of the cards which I'm sure you'll figure if you know the secret. Downside of this is your memory is required to know what's where if you use this method.

Overall
Great trick, great value, 10/10 for ease & effect.

On a side note I'm sure this trick has appeared elsewhere & under different name(s). If anyone knows of a different name let me know & I'll add it to the subject header which should help when searching.

Lastly if anyone has any variations or wishes to discuss ideas on the alternative handling please PM me.
