Or, what makes us special.
Recently have had some fantastic conversations with magicians, professional and otherwise from a whole lot of different back grounds about what it is that makes them chose magic over other art forms, and how that influences their magic and performing.
Without naming names, one guy I respect hugely said that he wants to make people question. His show is based around the scientific method, and while he presents real miracles, he really wants people to go away feeling that they can figure things out- not necessarily his tricks, but the world in general.
Another wants people to walk away feeling that some things don't need to be questioned; that things in life sometimes 'just happen'. He saw magic as a way to remind people that while things 'just happen' it's not all bad.
So while the question I'm asking is jumbled and ill formed at best, what do you want people to take from your performance, how do you achieve that, and why do you think it matters?
