Getting back into magic, card manipulation

Postby skeen » Jun 26th, '05, 16:26

Hey people. :)

I'm from South-East London, I have been interested in magic since I could remember. I started getting into it more seriously when I was about 14, and stopped when I was around 16.

I am now 19 and have decided to get back into it more seriously. I have no desire to work as a professional magician, rather I have the desire to master the art of card manipulation, as I feel I can do so. I love card magic, I love the complicated stuff...palms, passes, the works.

It was only yesterday that I decided I wanted to get back into it, as I missed the feeling, and having those fresh new Bicycles in my hand. Over the internet I've ordered 2 decks, and The Expert at the Card Table.

The magic shop I used to go to was Davenports, which is in Central London, in Charing X station -- anyone know it?

I've seen Davenports mentioned on these forums a couple of times, i now know the name, and i've never been to a magic shop in london :P There was another shop International Magic (i think) near the Farringdon tube stop.

I'm in a similar situation to you, i love card magic. If i see a trick and find out it's done with a "trick" deck of cards it makes me upset :P i dont know why, but i just much prefer using a normal deck. Saying that i do have a tapered deck :P

I'm not very good at all at doing the magic myself. I've just started trying to learn card manipulation a couple of weeks back.

Anyways, welcome to the forums. I've not been here long myself but i've found everyone to be nice :)

Enjoy your stay.

First things first,

Welcome to the forum. You're in good comapny here if you're looking to get your skills up to scratch. This has to be one of the friendliest and most effective forums I've been on.

Davenports couldn't be nearer to the Charing Cross underground as it's part of the sub-ground shopping area of the underground station. International is at the end of Leather Lane and either Farringdon or Holborn serve this shop well.

Have fun if you visit Davenports, and find you can get there easily, ask about the magic club that meets there too!, might be a place you can all end up meeting at!!
