I'm an amateur magician practicing on and off for about the past 12 years or so. While working at a pool hall here in the states (Texas) I met a younger kid (17-18) who frequented our establishment for a couple months then I never saw him again. He was a fairly talented at sleight of hand and we often talked and shared effects. He did quite a few parties, pretty ambitious for a highschool kid, and showed me some nice effects. I'm looking for the patter of one in particular that he improved upon (??) that he learned while attending a "magic camp". If anyone could fill in the patter, I would be very appreciative. Here goes what I remember...
He starts out telling how he had a recurring dream about being on a river boat and is confronted by the "boss". The old gambler told him he would play him a couple hands of 5-stud to allow him to earn his stay aboard the riverboat. Two hands play out, one with the riverboat boss dealing and one with the kid dealing. The first hand is won, just barely, by the riverboat boss. The kid thinks the boss is cheating him. The second had is dealt by the kid. This time the boss turns over his cards, a high full-house and assumes he won. The kid finishes the effect by saying something like, "But in my dream, I win... with a straight flush", while turning over the last card.
I'll never forget listening and watching this young kid perform it. The effect was fairly simple, starting with the deck stacked and using a couple false-shuffles & cuts between deals but the patter was what really drove the effect home.
If anyone could post or email me the patter they may have heard with this routine, I would appreciate it.
Yours Magically,
