Magic Magazines

Postby Rdw1971 » Jul 11th, '05, 10:54

Hi,

Anyone know if theres a published magazine on magic, that I could get from my local WH Smiths. Dont mind buying off net, but would be nice to just be able to pick up off the shelf.

Thanks
Rob

Most of them appear to be subscription only and/or sold via Magic Shops.

I do not think WHSmiths would do them at least not that I know of. But I’ve got hundreds of magazines such as abracadabra, the linking ring which I’ve ordered as a subscription.

BUG*ER!.

I only ask cos I was looking in Smiths on the weekend, and noticed some of the strange titles they carried (Routing Monthly, Doll Collector, Steam Enthusiast etc)

Just thought there might've been a magic mag somewhere in amongst them all.

D'OH!

Rob

I suppose its a good thing because we don't really want all the secrets on display and available to the zillions of browsers in W.H.Smith shops! I keep waiting (with a sense of deep foreboding) to the time we suddenly get TV commercials announcing the New ,'Mysteries of Magic' series in 104 parts, available every 2 weeks from your newsagents. Issue 2 free with Issue 1, a free binder with Issue 12, a professional quality magic trick free with every issue, and a personal letter of welcome from Houdini if you subscribe NOW. It'll happen one day, I'm sure!

I can see it now, FREE TT with issue 2! Lets hope this never happens. Although a bit of me wishes that I could buy a magic magazine a bit easier than it is at the moment...

Apart from Magic and Genii, are there any UK based magazines that aren't full of advertisements? I used to subscribe to Magic but stopped after a while. I had a brief look at Genii once but don't really know that much about it. Is it any good?

Magicseen is only in it's third edition at the moment, and I thoroughly enjoy reading it. As for the advert-side of things, I'm afraid you probably won't be able to get away from that - I imagine Magic magazines have such small reader numbers that the ads make up a substantial part of the revenues.

Whilst you're unlikely to see any of these titles on the shelf, WHS have access to many thousands of mags that you wouldn't even think existed. It's always worthwhile asking just to see what they can get hold of and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Can you just imagine it? Free IT with Issue 4 and thousands of muggles write in complaining they couldn't find it! :D
