Card magic videos... Need specific trick.

Postby anti_camper » Jul 20th, '05, 10:03

Hi guys, I didn't know if I could say the name of this trick in the title of this thread, but I was wondering if you could tell me what magic videos would teach me the method of "Backpalming" a card. As you possibly know (if you read the majority of my posts), I am really into vanishing, and I saw a guy use this method, and was wanting to learn myself. Can anybody recommend a good video to teach me this :?:

Art of Card Manipulation vol.1 contains it - and the video is definitely worth it. Highly Recommended.

Who teaches it? And what other manipulations are taught?

I'll second Kati's recommendation. The Jeff McBride Card Manipulation series are great :)

Wait, there are more than one? What tricks do these entail?

If however, you are looking for a challenge, and want to learn the manipulation from a book, I would heartily reccomend Lewis Ganson's Expert Manipulation of Playing Cards (available from Davenports). I know several card manipulators, including myself, who kearnt originally from that book. Moreover, it allows you to develop your own style if you learn from a book, rather than copy the performer, if you learn from a video or DVD.

What I CAN suggest (except for seconding the McBride advice) is that you don't get involved in using props or gimmicks.

There are 'aids' available to help with backpalming, and I recommend you steer clear and learn the more traditional methods.

There are quite a few ways of learning vanishes for card manipulation, but there is also real beauty in the productions taught by McBride too.

If you want to really treat yourself, Jeff Sheridan is an absolute undisputed master of manipulation, and often considered the instigator of modern street magic. Check out his DVDs for some really surrealist stuff.

(and for a quick fix, Oz Pearlmans' Mambo No.5 teaches the backpalm too—Penguin Magic instant download ;))

If you want just that effect, I recommend getting Penguin Magic's instant download Mambo #5. Its fun card to pockets. Teaches the backpalm and how to get it out and everything. like 9 dollars. Teaches a bunch of good sleights too. Just a recommendation.
