I have been doing magic for quite some years, and yes, I do HAVE a TT, but I have NEVER used it. I don't have ONE routine where I need it, and I do not feel confortable with it either. I assume the need for TT really depends on the kind of magic you do. It can be really nice for some vanishes some times, but even a Bill Switch doesn't need a TT. So I guess it depends on your magic. I have never used one, and will never use one in the future either....

The TT has to be one of the most useful items in the magicians tool box. It has so many applications and I'd say you should definitely get one but I wouldn't get one without also getting at least a book and preferably a DVD teaching you how to get the most out of it.

I would highly recommend http://www.penguinmagic.com/europe/product.php?ID=912&source=20548

Oddly enough I've never carried one in my pocket at all times until recently and having got so familiar that I ignore the presence of it now find that it really is a good thing to carry.

The first fears (obvious, detectection, clumsy, moves, etc.) kept me from it until I had atrick that required one and then becuase I had to I go used to it and voila!

Doesn't work for cards of small animals very well though :-)

Works great for the vanishing worm trick, ants work well too.

Yeah Will there is a bit of a trick to this. You use a lighter and gently heat up the tip and all of a sudden the guinea pig shoots out like a rocket. Best distance so far is 8ft

You should get one for sure. Very low cost and very useful for many different routines. You do the vanishing sponge ball (ends up in a childs hand)

A reminder to Seige - you're not Mods anymore, you're vets

I'd recommend buying and playing with a TT, particularly if you're a beginner and looking to gain wider knowledge of magic in general and find out about the types of tricks that suit you

I'd recommend buying an escort for playing about with. A TT is a lot of money to practice tricks with! Then move up slowly, maybe to a VW Golf.

Mark - I know the joke but the 'duck' version - probably the same and to risque for these pages.

Jokerdan - why not look up the many posts on TT's and you will realise that it's not what the TT looks like, it's how you use it (now where have I heard that before? ). There are posts about people using coloured or silver TT's and the point is that the spec won't be looking for, or see the TT.

You can have some great impromptu fun with a TT. Practice with what you have before buying another. I recommend the Darwin Encyclopedia of TT Magic DVD and you get a lot for what you pay for.

One you've mastered the half dozen or so bacic moves which are really simple, the only thing that will restrict you is your own imagination (unless of course you're into Guinea Pigs of couorse  ).
