Having met him several times, I have found him to vary considerably in his treatment of his fans/other magicians. When I first started I ran into him in International Magic and he couldn't do enough to help me. Another time when he was in there, and I was looking for advice on a good DVD for something or other, he just ganged up with the rest of the shop assistants to really take the p*ss out of me for using dvd's in the first place. Odd really, when you consider that I was trying to spend money in there. I no longer shop in International because of that treatment (although I did renage on that slightly to go the International convention over the weekend). It reminded me of when I first started playing guitar when I was a kid. I would go into shops and as soon as they found out I couldn't play they treated me like a moron. It seems odd to alienate future revenue streams - clearly business acumen and common decency cannot always overcome ego.

I saw him on Sunday and found him approachable, if a little irritable - what can you do!!!

Incidentally, I always shop in Davenports in London now, where they cannot do enough to help you regardless of level. It's International's loss becuase I'm not a beginner anymore, and they missed out on all of the money I spent to get me where I am, as well as all of the money I will spend in the future. Davenports all the way for me.

so what is Jerry sadowitz really like, everyone here well some of them complain of his attitude i've never met him but whats he like

he seems to be offensive and ignorant on TV but is that an act or is he really like that

He's a nice guy... deep down. He's always willing to help people who have an interest in magic. He's a very clever guy, and knows a lot about the history of magic. He's one of the best cardicians I've ever watched, and has created a lot of moves/effects for others people.

That said, he is a bitter guy. I think he resents the fact that his skill hasn't led him to the dizzying heights of celebrity, like Blaine for instance. Don't get him started on David Blaine!

He refuses to compromise his style, which I guess is cool artistically, but it is also his downfall. It's a great pity, as I reckon more people should see him perform. Unfortunately, you need to be over 18, and have a broad mind, for that.

Never had any problems with Jerry. As Mark said he is a very very skilled cardician and a really intelligent guy. He has always been very polite and helpful when I have visited International Magic. In fact he has often put me off of buying what I wanted, by being completely honest and telling me that it is not very good (or words to that effect!) And has put me in the direction of some very wise purchases (Dave Campbell Legcay, Card College series etc.)

I think you can rub him up the wrong way very easily though, so dont go to International and just ask him how you do such and such. Dont mention any other magicians! I have found this is the easiest way to not mention someone who he has had a run in with! Although I am aware that he is often bitter with other magicians who he feels that they have stolen his routines.

I would highly recommend any books by Jerry. They are not easy self working effects, but really good if you want to raise the bar in your card effects. Oh and if you ever have the chance to get a copy of The Crimp, get it! Its so so wrong but very very funny, and has some card workers gems in it.
