How big are your hands?

Postby mark_c1975 » Jul 26th, '05, 19:13

Hello everyone!

I did start this thread, and was wondering what sort of response it would get here.

I've read posts from people who have problems with the size of their hands and various sleights. I have fairly big hands, which some people think can be useful in card magic, but believe it or not, I still have problems.

For instance, I still have problems covering my pass, and whereas palming is easier, I still have issues with other sleights. I usually have to adapt moves to fit my handsize.

Anyway, I've posted a pic of me with an Ace of Spades from a regular Black Deck on my left hand, with a 50p for scale.

Look forward to seeing other peoples' hand-sizes. Lets see who has the biggest and smallest hands on here.

Mark - can's see / find the pic but not to worry.

Being 6ft 7" tall, I have very large hands and have never found it a problem for the sleights that I want to learn and perform. It's simply down to practice and where there's a will, there is a way!.

If it helps, when I stretch my palm out wide, from the tip of my thumb to the tip of my pinkie (across the palm) the span is 2 and a half decks of bikes (placed lengthways) and it's roughly the same from my wrist to the tip of my middle finger.

Just keep at it - it's not as if you can shave a few inches off your hands to make them smaller

I tried to post it again, but got an error saying the file size limit for attachments has been reach, and to contact the administrator. I'll post the pic when the problem is sorted.

I don't really have a problem with cards in my hands, just interested in seeing the sizes and shapes of peoples' hand on here.

After all, we'd be pretty stuck without them!

Look forward to more posts.

Average size i suppose but have no problem in hiding a card or small packet. This may be down to being fairly dexterous as I'm also a guitar player but who knows? Apparently Max Malini who was a great Magician of his Time had Very small Hands and could vanish all sorts of things.

I have big hands... my friends are always amazed when we compare hands. Even so, I still have a little trouble palming cards I just need a little more practise and I hope I can get it donw pat.

I have relatively small hands which are not all that good because I want to do lots of flourishes which is becoming a problem for me. But apparently Lee Asher can do all the flourishes on Dan and Dave Buck's "System" and he was fairly small hands.

I guess practice does make perfect!

I have teeny tiny shrimp hands (as Mr. Sankey would say ;)). To give you an idea of the side, when I close the fingers together that's about the width of a poker card..

This is the only way I could get the picture to work. Cut and paste the above URL into explorer and it should display. Don't forget to take the inverted comma thingies out from the ends.

Is anyone else having problems posting pics at the moment? Is there a way to get them to display in here?

Anyway, let's see those pics of your hands.

Cheers!

I have fairly small hands but this does not usually cause problems when performing card magic. I can just about palm a poker-sized card without too much trouble. With small hands, I am always having to adapt certain moves or sleights so that I can perform them comfortably and naturally. I rarely find myself performing card magic and sleights exactly as described in the instructions/book/DVD. The secret is to be adaptable and change things to suit your personal circumstances, whether it is small hands or big hands.

My problem is I have very dry hands, which can be frustrating when carrying out most sleights or even simply holding the deck. I am constantly licking my fingers which doesn't look very nice and is not exactly very professional. I have tried hand creams but they do not help. If anyone has any advice, I would be grateful.

Try 'Sortkwik' from cards4magic.co.uk - it leaves the hands very slightly tacky and ideal for card work, counting paper money etc.

I've just ordered some Sort Kwik; I am willing to try anything as this is getting to be a major problem for me. Thanks for that.

This is me with a card - I've spread my fingers a bit but when I'm palming it pretty much only just fits.

You know what they say about a guy with big hands and big feet, right? Yea - big disappointment!

My hands are not big, but I have long, slender fingers. Well, slender is probably a misnomer - they're friggin' bony. As a result, I have what magicians call "windows." It is impossible for me to hide anything in my hand and keep my hand looking natural.

Nevertheless, I've learned to compensate. As dat8962 said, "It's simply down to practice and where there's a will, there is a way!"

Mike.

Kati...

Just out of interest how did you get your picture to appear in the forum?

Thanks,
