I'm not so good at cardmagic but I definatley recommend you to go for born to perform, that dvd will make you able to do great tricks even when you not have your own deck ;)

Definately "Born To Perform". As Nox has already stated, the tricks contained in this DVD can be performed with ANY deck of cards. I think this is far more important than using gimics.

There are only 4 routines outlined in the dvd, but they are killer ones! Plus, all the basics that you are taught on the DVD will open a whole world of card effects for you. Hell, you can start making up your own effects once you get these moves nailed.

It does what a svengali deck does but can be riffled from sides and ends plus you can spread it and it appears normal. The way it works means that as well as being able to riffle shuffle it without mucking it up (lots of beginners don't realise you can do this with a svengali) you can also give it an overhand shuffle.

Basically a svengali that can be handled a little more naturally.

That all depends on what you want to do with it. If you can cope without the extras you get with a mirage then a svengali is cheaper and you can do all the same effects. Bare in mind that this is a utility deck, not just a single trick, but even still you might want to buy the DVD that has been recommended too, I am afraid that I am one of those who advocates the learning of a little S of H and ungimmicked self workers before investing too heavily in gimmicks as it certainly works out cheaper (plus knowledge will outlast any deck, however well you treat it).

Wingman, you obviously have a good idea of what kind of things you should be buying while you're finding your way in magic.

Instead of asking us which is best, a question that will ALWAYS give you a whole variety of answers, why not JUST BUY one of them, and have a play with it?

If you look at ALL the threads you've started with "Should I buy this, this or this..." you'll notice that near enough all the items you mention are a good buy in the first place.

There is only one way to build a collection of magic that suits you, and that is to BUY IT.

I hope there's no more of these threads to read...

You should check out all these threads in this forum about this kind of stuff. You should know that Born to perform is highly recommended by any card magician!

I highly recommend it also! It shows the foundation of all all basic (and intermediate) card magic. It takes you up to the next level if you're a beginner and if you're an intermediate... it's always nice to go over the basics again! :D

Born to Perform is without a doubt the best magic DVD I've had so far :!: :!:
