LCD screen

Postby Mahoney » Aug 8th, '05, 02:27

Hey I've had this idea, but I cannot find a vital part needed to make the thing. What I need is an lcd screen like you get on pocket calculators, alarm clocks, mobile phones etc. The type I need is very specific but I can't really say what it is. I'm just not sure where I could buy a screen like this. Any suggestions?

Dunno if they're still going but 'Tandy' used to sell stuff like that!! Have you tried the 'Maplin' Catalogue. You used to be able to get hold of copies of it at places like WH Smith etc!!
I'm probably completely wrong and they're probably both out of business, such is the economic state of the country!! ;-)

Maplins is still going strong and is about the only place that you have a chance of getting what you're after unless you buy an old or second hand item for the screen and then dismantle it.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Not so...

I use RadioSpares, www.rswww.com

Far greater and more comprehensive range than Maplins.

Plus, they supply kits etc.

I bow to your superior knowledge

Personally, I've never heard of Radio Spares but should have know that there would be somewhere on the internet that would prove me wrong

:D

RadioSpares have been around for many many years. My dad used to be in TV and Radio repairs, when TVs had VALVES! I've always used them for components, plus things like micro tools and hard to find electrical connections.

Reasonably priced, and next-day delivery.

:D

Maplins are OK, but are slightly more consumer-ish. We have a local Maplins retail outlet, and it's pure temptation not to buy some of the gadgets on offer!

Another company to try is CPC, they also do screens in component form, so there is no case. This lets you make your own case with a separate battery pack if size is really important.

I would guess they have a bigger choice than Maplin too
