Card-wise I would get 1 each of the following:

Red Back Bike
Blue Back Bike
Red Tally's
Blue Tally's

4 decks, 2 different types of cards. You can get a feel for Bike's and Tally's, and answer that age-old question for yourself:

'Which are better... Bike's or Tally's?'

How many posts have we seen asking this?

Enjoy!

Thank you for you advice all. Mark I dunno if I should buy both because the Svengali, stripper and invisible decks are all bieks and people say that you should stick to one kind.

Edit: On the other hand, I will buy both. Thanksa to you al.

Good list, personally I wouldn't bother with RRTCM but on the whole I don't think you will be disappointed with that list and I will be interested in your view on RRTCM.

I agree with Happy Toad... you could drop RRTCM and still have enough to be getting on with. Mark Wilson's book has tonnes to work through on it's own.

Still, RRTCM does provide a good grounding in cards, so keeping it in your list won't do you any harm whatsoever.

Go for it, but just remember not to rush through it all. Don't try and learn too much at once, as it won't work. Take it nice and slow, and regular practise will produce better results than rushing through everything.

And more importantly... enjoy yourself!

Probably Mark Wilson's book...

Anyway, I would second everything here. You definitely don't need all the stuff here...

My recommendations?

  • Born to Perform (everything you need to do great card magic)
  • Mark Wilson's CCM (don't have it but everyone else seems to like it )
  • 1 red Bike (useful for switching with the ID)
  • 1 red Tally-Ho (w00t)
  • 1 blue Tally-Ho (ditto)
  • 1 red ID (inordinately useful for outs and great effects)
  • Color Monte (this should get you started with one killer effect you can do)

should be more than enough.

Once you've got through all that (Born To Perform should take about a month if you're a complete beginner - you should be able to do everything on the DVD perfectly. I'm being hypocritical here though...I still can't do the Hot Shot :P) you could consider getting maybe a couple of gaff effects.
