Nicely done!

I saw a couple of flashes, but I guess if you don't know what to watch for, you'd never notice.

Good souvenir to hand to someone at the end too... they'll be wondering how you restored everything else for weeks!

Cheers,

Yea, sorry about that. I literally learnt the moves this morning and was recording it for practise purposes but I thought it looked "ok" so I thought I'd pop it up for people to look at and critique.

Well on the way, just needs to become more fluent, still fumbling a bit at the moment hence one or two flashes.
Is there any good reason you can give for not restoring the last piece? I know there is a version where the last piece is restored and it then becomes apparent with tape, does get a laugh and distracts from the fact it wasn't really completely restored.

Yea, there's a few ideas in Art Of Astonishment but I haven't really tried them yet. I'll have a read through and see what works and not.

I really hate it when magicians finish this trick with a really aggressive line like "What!? You want a f****** miracle!!?", if you know what I mean? So my options are to come up with a better line or restore the last piece  I'll look into it.

Have you looked into Torn?

That restores the last piece. I think it uses similar principles to this effect too.

It's looking good... you should post up a video in 2 weeks to show how smooth you'll have it by then.

If you have any questions about Torn, feel free to drop me a PM.

In 2 weeks (when I have it really smooth) I'll be showing it to real people, not magicians  . But thanks for the comments and I'll look into Torn. :)

Hey GoldFish..

It's looking good. Again, apart from a couple of flashes. You seem to have the same difficulties with this, as I had with Torn. I remember the first time I performed Torn... all that was going through my head was "I'm not gonna get away with this!"... my hands were shaking almost violently!

At the end of the effect, I had my cousin dumbfounded... complete with mouth on the floor... :o

By the way, I noticed from your website that you've done a lot of work in my hometown. Hell, I walk past the Blue Begoon every friday night in my drunken haze! Hehe...

[EDIT]

Just noticed something on your website, too. The "Previous Clients" section of the menu, only the word "Previous" is linked. Let me know if you need any help at all, webdesign is my trade! =o)

Completely off the topic, but hey Symtal, what websites have you done? I'd love to see some of your work.

I think in the beginning you could make a joke or something saying: "Hi. You want to see a trick or a miracle?" They'll say "a miracle" (who wouldn't?) and you could reply with something like: "well, I'm not a god so let's stick with something simpler".

Then at the end when you can't restore it, you could go for something like: "as I said in the beginning, I would restore it, but I said a trick, not a miracle!"

You don't have to do it aggressively to make it work.

Thanks for the idea Steve, but I've come up with (in my eyes) a nicer way of getting the same message accross.

I act overly pleased to have restored the whole card and when somebody asks me if I can restore the last corner I respond with "hmm? Oh, yea...(reach into pocket, retrieve a roll of scotch tape and hand the card and tape to the spectator in a non-threatening, off the cuff manner)."

It works better in my head, and hopefully will work nicely in performance. Now I just want to find an effect to use the scotch tape in :) .

Latest one I'm working on is Bailey Epos.

I like this idea. Adding humour, would take away from them pressing for a restore... especially if you could come up with something using the tape..

I have to say that the effect seems incomplete

The only way that I can see the magician restoring 3 parts of the card is if the spectator is holding the last piece. Otherwise, there doesn't seem a lot of logic to it.

That's a very good point, but I think the answer lies in the presentation. It will be a interesting challenge to see how well this comes accross. I'll let you know how it goes.
