Here's a tip to improving the speed of your charliers.

Learnt this from the ellusionist forum.

Practice the charlier using 2 decks that are still in the boxes. This greatly improves the speed and you can feel it when using a normal deck!

Good advice only if you're learning the basics of the move but then, you need to use the cards out of the box (which is the point) as you will find that the cards move about in your hand and you need to learn about the positionning.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

True. Doing it with the boxes is when you know the technique for the charlier. Until then, I don't recommend using the boxes to do the charler cut.

Practice is the only real answer to this (I'm sorry if this seems to be rammed down peoples throats).

I sit at work with my cards in one hand and my mouse in the other and do Charler after Charler. Took me about three weeks before I could do it 100% of the time without droping them.

Now I've got down doing two Charler Cuts, one after the other, keeping the cards in the same order as they started.

At first I struggled (my hands had never handled cards like this before) but it won't take long to get it sorted.

Sorry.. but practice is the only way.

charlier then do a fan with the top half putting it back underneath, false curts and doesnt look too bad. anyway, i always use two boxes when im bored, sometimes three and just do cuts with them. dont try and fan them too widely or they'll fall though...
another way for practicing cuts is making paper rings round the long sides of the cards, so you have 2/3 packets, but the cards also slip a little if you arent careful enough.good for creating them aswell, you can label them top, middle and bottom and then at the end see what order they are in...
