Annemann Outdone by Carlyle
Bought mine from : http://carlyletouch.com/PageFour.html

Price : $25 + Shipping.

Difficulty : 1. It’s as easy or as difficult as you wish to make it.

They Say :

Here is a ‘tool’ that will give information, to you, at the tip of your fingers. If you know of the effect by Annemann, known as Mental Masterpiece, then you are close to this tool. I call this outdone because it goes one step farther. In Annemann’s effect a card case was rigged so that the top was a carbon impression device. Here Carlyle has made that carbon impression device into a single playing card. Yes you read that statement correctly, A SINGLE PLAYING CARD. It can be handled openly on top of a standard deck of ‘Ryder Back’ poker playing cards or on a one-way forcing deck. As a ‘pre-show’ prop a card can be forced on a gentleman and as an after thought a Post-A-Note © can be placed on the top of the closed deck, using it as a writing surface. His lady friend is ask to put her thought or the last 4 digits of he phone number on the note and remove it for safe keeping. This done with your eyes turned away. On stage it can be done right in front of the audience and the impression seen as you return the cards to your table, by simply thumbing up the top, impression card. Its uses are only limited by your imagination.

With instructions. Order Red or Blue back (limited to stock on hand) Ryder back. Also available in a Tarot card (no stock on hand. Made on demand) Price on request

I Say :

If you are familiar with impression devices, then this is basically what it says. It’s an impression device, in a single card. The card is real, and has been gimmicked accordingly. So what you get is, the gimmicked card ( red or blue bicycle ), and a two sided A4 ‘booklet’, containing a description and two suggested effects.
The card looks real ( it is ), no thicker than normal, but minor preparation is required before it can be used. However, everything you need is supplied, so it is not difficult.

In use, you have a small impression area, and suggested use utilises a small post it note. However, that should be sufficient.
Realistically you could use the card once or twice, before going off to reset.

The two suggested effects, fall into two main categories. One uses a peeked impression, like many such devices. The second, and probably my preferred, uses the device for pre show. Sidle up to a participant, ask them to write on a post it without showing you. You scrabble about for a surface to write on, and offer them your deck of cards to rest on. Note that the cards would need to be out of the box, and a rubber band is suggested. The participant can keep the post it, and at your leisure, you know what they wrote or drew.

It is a beautiful little item, for the right effect. One minor downside is that, due to the way the card is gimmicked, it is better for the card to be face down, but again, it is a real card, so will look fine as the top card on the deck – or bottom, depending on how you look at it.

One effect suggests forcing the card. I wouldn’t – I would simply keep it on top, use it for pre-show, and it’s job done. No one would ever suspect.

Overall :

A very nice little item, for the right effect. The effect does need to fit the card, and visa versa, but it’s a neat little item.
I guess it would best at a party, small show, but the effect will certainly have the audience scratching their heads ! And could be used to great effect.

Rating : 8/10. Very nice, just better to use it with the face downward. Great !
