Palming

Okay, I'm thirteen and my hands aren't quite big enough to totally conceal the card I'm trying to palm. hints?

First.....what size of cards are you using? Poker size are slightly larger, and therefore harder to handle for some people......try bridge size cards. You may find them to be more comfortable until your hands grow, or until you get better at the palm itself!

Second.......When I first worked on palming, I thought I was aweful at it....but once I did it infront of a mirror, I realized I was hiding it much better than I thought.......it is angle sensitive at the best of times, but even more so if you have small hands, and/or poor technique!

Third........Which type of palming are you doing? For example, the tenkai (not sure on exact spelling?!) is very angle sensitive, but less oriented to hand size.

Dont be too daunted with palming. Its not as bad as you might think. My advice to you would be work on your presentation and patter. I sometimes use a very simple palm. But I misdirect the attention of my spectator to compensate for my 'smaller' hands. I would say technique is important with palming, but work with your misdirection and patter and just be confident when the card is concealed. You will be fine.

You could always buy a pack of minature cards. There are some nice bicycle ones here if you usually use bicycle cards. Not only that but with the right patter you can use them to add a hilarious novelty to the trick you're performing. Some magicians use them to make it appear as if the card has shruck, etc.

There was a magician who had small hands, and when he palmed the cards actually stuck out of the sides. But his misdirection skills were so perfect, nobody noticed.

I forget his name though :? Is it Max Malini?

Anyway, there are ways around any problems you have with cards, you just have to figure them out.

Couldn't agree more with the above comments. Its like the TT, everybody should see it and nobody does. You will find that the lack of concealement is more in your mind that the spectators. Try it a few times with somebody watching
