Hey

I see what you are saying

But when one starts a war they KNOW that there will be loss of innocent lives and therefore they mustn't TRULY care about innocent lives otherwise they would not do it and ALWAYS find the most intelligent solution. It is clear Bush does not.

Also from the perspective of those who have been bombed and maimed, etc, etc, it is most certainly terrorism. The difference is our leaders have power and so can navigate it at arms length and so it doesn't affect them...

I'm sorry JB, but I think that's false. Yes, anyone who engages in a war knows there will be a loss of life, but to say that they don't CARE? Ridiculous.

So, basically you're saying that the loss of life didn't affect President Bush or Prime Minister Tony Blair? They didn't care because it didn't happen to them? Why would it just be confined to political leaders? I've heard from people all over the country - saying they cried when they saw the events of 9/11. Tears, pain, sorrow, grief. They didn't know one person in either tower, or in the Pentagon. They just saw it on the news. ARe they liars? Are they just looking for some TV time? No - something happened to people in their country, and they felt sorry. It doesn't need to affect you directly, to affect you. Look, they may not be the most influential leaders of our time, but to completely demonize them like this is just appalling.

I'm the son of a NYC Firefighter, and we lost 75 close, personal family and friends on 9/11. We've also lost friends in both legs of the war on terror - so speaking as someone who is directly affected - I'd rather see my leaders do something about it, than just bury their heads in the sand and hope it all goes away. I can also say, with quite a bit of certainty, that I believe these leaders WERE affected - while not personally, I believe they do care that lives of the countrymen they govern were taken.

I also disagree with JB but for different reasons.

I find that people's view on the right and wrongs of the Gulf war are more often deep seated views that are very personal. No matter how you argue your view, very often you won't alter the other person's thinking on the matter.

I won't be trying and will just be contributing to magic threads from now on.

Dat, I see your point - but the comments had nothing to do with an opinion of the war itself. Whether you are for or against the war, you cannot say, with absolute certainty, that political leaders don't care about loss of life.

Sorry, just thought I would jump in for a moment......

A person/president/country, etc, makes a choice about going to war.......they wieght the costs and potential gains, and they choose to either go to war, or not go to war......I think saying the "don't care about loss of life...." is the wrong wording, but I do agree with you, they looked at any potential gains, and beleive that the costs are much less than the potential gains.......so in essence, they are trying to place a value on life/lives, and I guess the question then becomes, "what is a life worth?"
