Nice first effort. Careful when you do the two face-down/two face-up spread - you gave the tiniest little flash.

Handling was fine - though I would suggest being a bit faster on the spread of the four face down cards. Moving as slowly as you did might arouse some suspicion - when you just spread them quickly and start turning them over and tossing them on the table, it's more convincing.

Are you having trouble with the opening count? I'm just wondering, because personally, I don't like it. To me, it's not convincing enough. I don't know why, but it just doesn't look right no matter how often I see it.

Again, nice job.

I have a couple of comments about this. I don't mean to sound too critical here though...I am nitpicking ;).

Firstly, your Elmsley count is a bit revealing - what happens is that the third card is actually being angled a bit so you can see the corner moving back to the other hand (which makes the count look quite odd). Also, you slow down the count on the "trick" part which may alert people to something fishy. Practice keeping the cards squared and the rhythm steady, and the count will look that much cleaner.

Second, I find that it's a bit of a cleaner display of the final Aces if you show each one individually then drop it on the table. It also means you can artistically arrange the other Aces to cover the special one so you don't need to worry about this being too visible.

And finally, I would work on the patter a bit. You stumbled a bit in places (e.g. and visibly...er...invisibly make the last Joker turn over). It's really a minor point though, so don't worry about it.

Once again, this may come across as being very critical, but I really don't mean it to be. Overall, the handling was good, and there were just a couple of things here and there that could be ironed out.

By the way, I've PM'ed you about a better handling for the trick which uses a different count to show the four Jokers at the beginning and comes with a free patter that I've found much better for the effect.

;)

I can't do the 2-for-4 count either. I think that there is always going to be something fake about trying show four cards as two - it's just too dissimilar from regular counting.

In the routine that I PM'ed you a different count is used, one that is much more natural (H***** count for those in the know ;)).

Your elmsley definitely needs work. when you take the cards into your left hand keep the right hand still, this hand shouldn't move at all. All the movement should be with your left hand. Also when you take the cards off with you left thumb take the card and move it forward. It will help masking the replacement of the card. You will know what I mean.

Just try doing it with 4 normal cards and the third 1 face down and try doing it then, should be easier to practice as you can just whip some cards out and practice.

Also your patter needs sorting out. You seem to fumble quite a bit. Magic is 80% presentation 20% technique. If you know where you are going with your patter, it will help you with the moves aswell. Also where is the logic for doing this? Every trick should have logic or it is just a mere puzzle. For example you could talk about it being a memory test, ask "how many jokers were face down then?" Then show another one has turned face down. Then say do you remember what the faces were? Then show all aces. Or say something about the cards being crazy and they can turn face down without being asked something like that.

You also need a reason to hold the cards in the middle, not just saying "if I just do that then..." How about squeezing them and saying if I give them a twist, then turn the cards around 360 degrees while squeezing them.

Also I hope you don't say " no funny moves" in real performance. They can see that.

Good luck with this and don't take what I said as an insult I am trying to help you progress in magic. :D

i need all the help i can get :D

Hi, it needs work overall, but a good starting block to work from. I know when I first did NFW, I practiced it so much that I wore out my cards! Even then I was not happy with it! Hope Kati's help with reference to the H****** count helps. I think it looks much more convincing myself. Stick with it! :D

I have one thing to say, and you wouldn't think that this would apply to this trick, but:

WATCH YOU ANGLES!!

I already knew how this was done even though i don't own it, but I can clearly see something to do with the Ace of Clubs. I'm not saying anymore in case I give the trick away
