So, with a little PayPal jiggery-pokery, my copy of The Grail arrived yesterday, and I’ve now had some time to play...
I don’t think that the mechanics are going to any huge revelation to anybody, but – in many ways – this is a bonus, as the handling is so much simpler as a direct result of the basic methods employed.
As has already been pointed out, the simplistic workings do away with the need for any sleights, moves or skill; yes, there is a little *something* that’s sometimes required, but I couldn’t – in all honesty – even approach describing this as any kind of move, per se (more of a fumble, if anything!!)
Again, as already touched upon, there’s a very tiny amount of memory-work involved (and even this can be cribbed); you’ll also need to be able to add and subtract in your head...though the largest number you have to use is three, so – if you’ve graduated from primary school – all should be good
With such basic methodology, I can completely understand how so many owners of The Grail will allow it to languish, unused, in their bottom drawers – it almost feels like a rather mediocre effect, based solely on the workings, and it would be easy to allow this feeling to colour one’s perception of the actual spectator-view of the effect...
That said, it’s worth highlighting that the playing out of The Grail is *killer*; everything is so fair, that there seems to be absolutely no room for trickery whatsoever (you can even have another spec hold the face-down prediction card firmly between their palms, whilst the effect plays out, further emphasising the normality of the cards

!!)
The only downside I've found so far is that part of the effect is unexaminable, whilst another part will not bear too much scrutiny. That said, there is a way around both of these issues, by introducing a certain type of envelope to hold the prediction card (with very little forethought, this could actually *enhance* the effect, as you could actually perform with nothing more that your little envelope, and a
borrowed deck). That said, there will be those who prefer the 'naked' card approach, and don't mind unexaminable kit at the conclusion...
...Either way, The Grail really IS a massively impressive effect, which deserves far more exposure than it's received so far
An easy score of 9/10 from me on this one
