Last Trick Of Dr. Daley

Postby magic_evmeister » Oct 21st, '05, 15:32

This is my performance of The Last Trick Of Dr. Daley. This is only my second video shared on here and I've only been doing magic for around 5-6 months so please be gentle.

That being said, any constructive criticism is most certainly welcome. Hope you like my very manly cards.

I would usually make much more of a show out of this trick but I haven't here since I don't have a microphone to use any patter in the video.

Nicely done... always wondered what I can do with my own pastel cards.

Just a slight flash on the first lift, you could see the prep, but otherwise smoothly done.

Keep up the good work!

Nice little routine ... like the guys have said ... the DL's need a tichy bit of work ... but I'm sure a lay person wouldnt spot it to easily.

Not too bad. I don't like the pink cards for this one. The queens and aces was a good counter to the 1 color problem, though.

As the others said, your DL needs work. The turnover is very suspicious, since you came over the card and grabbed both ends before turning the card. Try working on turning it over just by holding the edge. With practice, you'll find it's not too difficult to keep the edges lined up. Turning over from the edge is a more convincing display.

A nice effort, though. Keep up the good work.

I liked it, but you should have invluded some patter, as if someone didn't know the trick, then they wouldn't know what you were doing at the beginning.

I know that you would tell them in real life, but you could have put up something saying I'm goin to mix up the cards.

And why did you not do the 1st part????

I liked it, but it would have been better with the other part

Hi

That was a nice quick trick I liked it and it was nice to see different colour cards.

The DL looked fine to me :-)

I look forward to your third video.

Thanks for all of your comments. I don't think my prep for the DL in real life performance is as obvious but when I sat down to film the trick I realised, I don't have a microphone for the patter, therefore I have no logical reason to remove the top card and do a get ready. Therefore I had to try and improvise the technique I eventually used. I suppose it was a bad call but I just wanted to put this trick up for comments on improvement. Unfortunately the only constructive criticism I got were on the part I can do properly in a real performance. Perhaps i should consider that a good thing.

I decided to use the pink cards because I have them (I've got blue and green reversed image decks aswell), thought it would be different and I wandered if anyone would comment on them. I wish now that I'd left the comment about "manly" cards out just to see what people would say without being prompted. And also, that was definitely my reason for choosing the bare aces and the picture card queens. I also though "how can I use the pink cards and not involve the queen of hearts" so the rest of the set-up went from there.

As soon as I can make videos with a microphone I'll do this trick properly, which I only hope will be met with as much constructive criticism and suggestion for improvement as this "odge-bodge and scarper" job I made of the trick.

Thanks again guys.

Sorry, just an extra bit.

What first part? As far as i know this is the whole trick. If there's something I don't know about that you could tell me about then I'd be glad to know about it. If it cant be discussed in the open forum then PM me. If you don't wanna discuss it there then don't worry about it, but this comment confuses me, as I have never seen this trick performed any other way.

Even if you did know the first part of the trick, you would need patter for it. If you learnt this trick from PM, then Oz teaches the subtlety that requires patter to work.

I don't know if you have seen Daryl's patter on this, but I love it, and I use it all the time.

The problem with this trick, is that the patter very often is bad or lacking... Daryl's version is really nice, and builds up very nicely on the final kicker surprise.
