'Postitis'

Postby Hodgkinson » Oct 23rd, '05, 19:48

This may be a new term to many and something which I have just made up but down the pub I have heard of many darts players with 'dartitis' - this is where they are at the oche, have dart in hand and are just about to throw the arrow, when they try they just can't seem to let go of it.

I have found myself on more than one occasion writing an answer to a question or being about to post a new topic here on TM, then, when it comes to hitting the submit button, I just freeze. I may re-read my potential post and realise I'm spouting complete rubbish or just realize that what I have written just doesn't sound right. So, instead of writing the post again I just hit the back button or go to the main menu.
I have coined this affliction 'Postitis' and was just wondering if I am the only sufferer.
If so I think I may have to seek professional help !

No, you are not alone. Many an evening, I enjoy a surf here on TM, and after a few shandies, I realise that what I thought was a really concise, clear relevant post, reply what have you, I look at it and realise that it was complete rubbish! My post count would be in the 1000's if I let all these go!

mine are all rubbish even the good ones, so just go ahead mate you can always delete it after we have all picked it to pieces.

MagicDiscoMan wonders if he should just delete this post too.

Nope - many's the wonderfully witty and astute response penned by yours truly which has been flushed down the S bend of deletion before posting. The usual reason is that, on second reading, it's utter and total rubbish. The second reason could be the possibility that what I've written isn't really relevant or appropriate. Mainly I think it's because once an answer or message has been created and read through a few times to check spelling etc, then there's not much point on going any further - the steam has been let off so why carry on and inflict it on everyone else?

Of course, all the above doesn't apply to this message which, of course is spot on. Or possibly not.

No ... that's my job! I have made it my life's ambition to confuse and bemuse. The strange thing is that my audiences and students love it! I live in the land on the edge of reality, but it is more real than most people's lives. Some may mock .. you decide if you care. Spout rubbish or spout nothing ... that is your choice ... I know which I would choose.

Much love.
