My first magic club night

Postby Johnny Wizz » Oct 26th, '05, 09:40

Well, I have been there! I have been to my local magic club for the first time. Thank you to everybody who advised me to go, it was brilliant.

It is a smallish club, very informal but so friendly and so full of people with good advice and a ton of experience.

I was made very welcome indeed. The secretary showed me a card trick whilst people were arriving that ended up with seven cards on the table which made up my phone number. It was a very nice welcome to the club.

Last night was a close up magic competition night and this was a great introduction because I was able to judge where I stood against members who were confident enough to perform in front of other magicians. And I also got to see the reaction when something went wrong. One of the performers asked a spectator to deal out two specific piles of cards and the spectator made a mistake in the dealing which ruined the performers stacked deck! I was comforted to see that the response was sympathy not ridicule!

I will feel quite happy to give of my best when the time comes for me to show a trick or two.

I am happy to endorse the advice other members of this forum gave me and to say to any of you who do not belong to a club go out and find yourself one. Its a great evening out and I know that my magic is going to get better in the club environment.

Pleased you enjoyed it. My first night at my club was a nerve wracking experience. I was very worried I would not be good enough etc. But I fitted in straight away. My only grumble is that we only meet once every 2 weeks! My magic has come on leaps and bounds since I have been going. I am sure yours will too.

I'm also glad that you enjoyed it as I was one of those that had recommended joining. I wish my magic club met fortnightly as we only meet once each month.

I was made to feel very welcome too.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Glad you enjoyed it John. I'm heading back to mine next Wednesday as Scott Penrose is lecturing, and he came highly recommended by Mandrake and Kati.

The Zodiac meets weekly on a Wednesday, so I guess I'm lucky there. Unfortunately I can't go every week, as my Tai Chi classes are on a Wednesday too.

Cheers,
