It Explains how to do the coin roll in BOBO's Modern Coin Magic and also alot of other great tricks with coins.
If you want to learn coin magic then this is the book for you and it is quite cheap.
Other than the explaination in the book it just takes alot of practice and then some more like any other area of magic really.

p.s There are many places to get the book so just have a look round and find where it's cheapest.

That's a bit excessive!

It really isn't all that hard, it just takes patience initially and you'll soon get it. I would suggest not bothering to try it one handed to start with though, just roll down the knuckles and let it drop into your other hand.

It' not easy but if you persevere you will get it. At first I was awful but I kept on and now I do it each day to limber up my fingers before practising anything else. It has also taught me that most, if not all sleights, are do-able if you stick with it - I use the experience to remind myself.
If you click on this link there is an example with an UP as well as a DOWN roll. I didn't know the UP, so I practise this daily too.
By the way I practise with both hands.

I agree, it is a tricky one to master. Once you know the handling it really is just a case of practice practice practice.

I don't have this but you may find the following of some use: http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=1155.

I didn't think it took that long to learn, IMO.

Saying give up now is absolutely rubbish IMO. I'm sorry, but you don't give up on something just because you think you can't do it. 90% of the people who practice hard on the coin roll succeed and you just say give up - just not what magic and flourishing is about.

Magic is learnt by practice. Relying heavily on gimmicks IMO is a big NO. Practice and "playing around" with the coin are totally different matters. Different people have different ways of practicing. Ok, maybe you're one of the people who just cannot get the coin roll down, but that's not an excuse to tell other people to give up!

*got a bit angry there... sorry*

Back to topic on the coin roll, there are many sources for learning the coin roll. On Penguin Magic, you can buy the instant download now to learn it. I learnt it from XB from Ellusionist. I think to aid with loosening the fingers and just dexterity in general would be to probably get some Chinese Balls (the two balls that roll in your hand).

the best advice i can ive is what was told to me who learn't from jeff mc bride's dvd.
many people try to do the coin roll with straight fingers, instead try making a fist and at the bottom try and get a deap grip for the thumb transfer.
i never got it consistantly right but if you can get it then consider sankeys coin switch using the coin roll, of hand not sure which dvd its on, no card tricks i think. :?:

This is probably the best advice for the coin roll.
Your fingers naturally straighten out to try to balance the coin. If you close your fingers, then try to roll the coin you should find it a bit easier. I have taught a few people to do this and as soon as they get the idea to keep their fist closed, they are off and running. The rest is down to practicing constantly. Try videoing your coin roll at the moment. Then spend a week practicing it(which should pose no problems as you can do it just about anywhere) then video it again 1 week later.compare videos. I gaurantee that if you try this you will see the results. The thing about a lot of coin stuff is that it is difficult, so a lot of people wont go near it-or worse, give it a couple of shots then give up on it. The reason it is impressive to people is because you cannot do it straight away. If you could then we would all be doing it. The same goes for card stuff, when you begin to do a new sleight for the first time:-like a double,2cnd,pass etc.... it seems absolutely impossible to do without being caught or messing it up. The reason there are so many good magicians out there, is the very fact that when they realised how difficult these things are to master, they gave it their all. This goes for magic as well as flourishes. If you see a flourish, like a coin roll or sybil cut, or a one handed shuffle done poorly, then it wastes the whole effect.the flourish will not look that effective and in some cases just looks embarrasing. The same for a card or coin or any magic trick.(in this case though, the sleight you have been practicing so hard on is not meant to be seen.) If the practice hasnt been put in, then it looks to the layman that you are doing something that they cant do, it may even look quite good or confusing to them. It definetly wont look like magic though.
Sorry to have mumbled on so much, was just trying to help you out with your coin roll ;o) got a bit caught up.
Good luck

This is not what you want to think like. I dont mean to be nasty, but i would bet you a million pounds that you have not gave it one month of practice, never mind years. I apologise if you have been practicing for years and you still cant get it.I didnt mean to offend. My advice would probably be for you to give up on it. If you truly are practicing constantly and gettin nowhere then this is probably the only time i would ever tell or have ever told anyone to give up. But i secretly just think you havent practised maybe as much as you think you have with it...........in fact, i take that back........keep on practicing, dont even give up now. you will get it one day. trust me

heheh... cough
anywho, you dont need to use chinese balls. any type of round object would do. but nothing big like tennis balls.

and Murtagh55... you must be very talented with your fingers if you got it in a hour...

i still cant do mine fast enough, nor smooth enough
