Like many things in magic.........

A) Don't be turned off by the simplicity of it

B) It can get stale and over-used, if thought and creativity aren't applied

C) The performance is everything!!!!! It is not as much what you use, as it is how you use it!!!!!!!!!!!

D) Even though I am very aware of them, under the right circumstance, with the right application, I still can get sucked in with them!!!! So do not fear "Everyone knows about them......." It is alot like a DL, many people know about them, but performed well, they are still convincing!

E) To each their own! Choose what suits your style, ability, venue, comfort level, and your personality. If it works............use it! I would venture a guess that if you asked any magic shop, they would tell you "one of the best sellers in their shop!........." Ask yourself "WHY?"

F) My golden rule in magic..........If you are comfortable with what you perform, your specs are happy with what you perform, then "Always forget about OPO!" (OPO=Other peoples opinions!)

I think that saying any effect is "unfasionable" is very foolish. The main point is that look on the spectators face when they visually see a red piece of cloth diaspear right in front of their eyes, the great thing about TTs are that you can roll up your sleeves or even do it naked (not recomended). They have infinite effects.

If a spectator finds it amazing then trust me, its a good trick.

The first trick I performed to my mates in the pub was the a simple TT routine and it went down a storm. I can do tricks that took me weeks to master and cost a lot of money...but still people ask to see the orginal routine.

So are TTs unfashionable?....in a word, No!

For someone wanting to start looking into TTs what would you guys advise as a good beginners TT and a book/DVD to go with it?

Pitto

PS Alan Shaxon did a great routine using (what i can only imagine was) a TT that i saw and it was one of the best tricks of the night.

Pitto,

Iwould recommend Darwin's Encyclopedia of TT magic DVD. You can get it almost anywhere. Great video loaded with tt magic!

Dale and Demitri,
My apologies; I missed the tiny "except me" at the bottom of Dale's posting. Yes, I fear it was a "senior's moment"! LOL!

The late Charlie Roe, who got me started in magic, was a printer in "real" life and wore his TT all the time on the job.

That way he was totally comfortable with it when he was doing a show.

And back then tips were made of metal, had no wrinkle lines, and were painted with "flesh" paint, which was nothing like the color of anyone's flesh on this earth!

But it really didn't matter, since no one was supposed to see the top at all anyway.

cheers,
