depends on what kinds of magic you do (coins, cards, metalism... spelling sucks, leviation)

there are alot of good ones, but it all comes down to how you perform it

?!~

For crying out loud, the msn button under my name is to talk about magic with me, NOT A FREE MAGIC GIVEAWAY LINK. dont abuse it

Can you be a bit more specific please.
Do you want a card trick, coins, T.T, something that uses a gimmick?
Also you don't give your status ie - AH = Amateur Hobbyist, WP = working pro. this could give us a bit more to go by on what to suggest. :?

Here are a few suggestions of what i do close up.

"No Smoking" by Jean Luc Bertrand. this is a colur changing knife type effect but using cigerette lighters. It has a very good ending

"Three Ring Circus" by Jay Sankey - This one is a classic linking ring style effect that uses Keyrings and with the handling everything can be examined.

"Ear plugs" by Jay Sankey - A sponge ball routine but done with Jays earplug design sponges. Sponge ball magic is excellent and very strong as effects can happen in the specs hand.

Many card effects from packet trick like NFW to Classics like Triumph.

"Free Will" - This is a mentalist style effect thats very easy to perform but i have found that i need to set the right mood first or it doesn't go down so well.

You can find more info on these on most magic shop websites

Hope this helps you out a bit.

If it's cards your after (which seems to be the majority following on this site) then here are some of my favourite close-up tricks:

Jay Sankey's Bodyguards (My own handling)
Invisible Palm (God knows who's handling I use, but it's cool)
Last Trick Of Dr Daley (simple classic - but always goes down well)
Chicago Opener (as with Dr Daley)
All Of My Energy (very simple trick created by me involving a shrinking selected card - if anyone's interested PM me)
Jacks Or Better (From Gerry Griffin's "Complete Card Magic")

Or if you prefer more gimmicked tricks I'd recommend:
Jay Sankey's "Astral Projection"
Peter Nardi's "Knock 'Em Dead"
-Two Fantastic tricks that I hope never to be without

please don't buy that criss angel thing!

and yes, do Jay Sankeys - Bodyguards, i like that one.
if you do the invisible palm use a nice fluid handling as apposed to some of the jerking, quick ones i've seen done.
or, try some faux mentalism, just force a card and pretend you know what you're doing.
i find a nice mercury fold then coughing it up gets some nice reactions.

ID is mind blowing, powerful, and best of all, can be performed minutes after you get it......requires a little memorization, but well worth the effort!

What about a card to wallet effect? I just recently got a wallet as a gift, and it is great!!!!!!!!!! Best thing about it, is that it is not any more than the price of a nice wallet anyway.........I asked specifically for one that could be used and carried as a regular wallet. This makes it very useful, and I am always ready to perform an effect in an impromptu fashion!

Depending on what types of tricks, effects, you like, and on your opinion of gaffed decks, but a stripper deck is very useful, and can be used quite easily.........you can really let your mind guide you with it, and it is relatively examinable by the spec. You can also perform any regular deck tricks you use with it.

If you like coins, "Scotch & Soda" is a classic! It is magic that happens right in a spectator's hands!!!!!

Another good one that i have used (until I lost a part) was Misled....it is a money penetration with a pencil......very visual and can be performed with a borrowed bill, and pencil and bill are examinable afterwards.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who likes this trick. My own version involves stealing some diamonds (using the queen of diamonds) rather than kidnapping "the important guy" as Sankey's version goes. Also rather than having the card in my pocket at the end I have the diamonds in my toolkit (the deck) upside down. I normally get great reactions with this trick and as Sankey says, I like the story and the performance even though I don't do much story based stuff either.

No one else seems to have said it so i will  Whats that phrase..... A proffesional magicain shows 5 tricks to a 100 people an ametuer shows 100 tricks to 5 people.

I know sometimes you will want something new for friends and family. But be carefull you dont end up spending £100's on new tricks just for friends. You will end up with old favourites gathering dust just because everyone has seen it. Seek new audiences.

That said  i would reccomend:

Jay sankeys in a flash, and lennart greens stolen cards both you will pick up very quickly and once learned never forgotten it's all in the presentation.

Hope i havent offended it wasnt my intention just some advice from someone who knows the sting of a magic spree and dont even get me started on the Mrs's reaction

I've not heard this one before but thinking about it, it is so true.

Jay sankeys in a flash, and lennart greens stolen cards both you will pick up very quickly and once learned never forgotten it's all in the presentation.

I have both of these and they're very strong. Stolen cards is partucularly simple yet so stunning. It's one of my favourite decks.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
