Bill Switch problem

Postby magic_evmeister » Dec 20th, '05, 02:51

I know the method but I'm having some trouble actually doing it. If anyone does this routine then I'd like to PM you with a few questions if anyone can oblige. Please let me know.

P.S. Sorry if this is vague but I'm not sure how much I can say without an exposure alert.

there are a lot of different versions of a bill switch..which one do you have?

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..

I'm doing the one Jay Sankey teaches on his "Very Best Of...Vol 2" using a TT (just in case there are other methods). Demitri has just PM'd me asking for more info aswell so if you need to edit this then please do.

My problem is that the bill I wanna switch in just won't come out of the TT - it just clings to the inside when I try to pull it out. Is this likely to be because I've got a soft rubber TT? Should I get a harder one?

you need to get a hard tt to do the switch smoothly.

Yes, a hard tt would help, I had the same problem.....experiment with how deep you are placing the bill.....too deep, and it binds easier on the sides.......just barely in, and it is easier to access and remove.

If I was you, I would get a non-TT version, like the one I performed:

No TT - even better !

Nice effect, Rune - but I find the fact that you cover the bill completely during a bit suspicious.

You fold the bill the fourth time, then cover it with your fingers. When you pull away, the bill is now partially unfolded. This, to me, is highly suspect.

I like your concealments, but I think some of your movements looked a bit odd. Overall it's a great effect, but I don't see why it needs to completely replace a tt switch.

To use the old quote - If it ain't broke - don't fix it.

The bill switch taught on Darwin's encyclopedia of TT magic has the bill at the start protruding slightly from the TT so that it's easier to remove and swap much more smoothly. The positioning and movement of the hands means that you don't see the bill in this position.

I've found this version very effective and when finished you have the bill totally inside of the TT anyway so everything looks clean. Experience with a TT helps of course.

I use a hard plastic TT which is actually 'child' or small adult size. That way the note slightly sticks out when pushed fully in. When folded the note is slightly wider than the TT so I crease it along the length in the middle which makes it go into the TT.

I also fold the top right hand corner down which then catches on your thumb on withdrawal.

Another tip is to get your thumb slightly wet or tacky (a tiny amount of blue tack or magicians wax or lick your finger or touch a wet glass etc.) which helps the note to stick to your thumb when withdrawing the note.

A largish hard TT should be fine, and the bill should fit fully into it.

Runes routine was a bit fiddly as mentioned but with practice it will get smoother. It shows though that a non TT method is good too. I occasionally use a non TT switch. Two versions of this are Paul Chosse's Bar Bill Stunt by Ron Bauer from www.thinklikeaconjurer.com, and Jarle Leirpoll's from Pocket Power (a good display method is shown in this book/ebook)
