I was simplly interested in how Erdnase himself referred to this change. I'm not sure at what point it took on the name "the Erdnase Change", although I have a sneeking suspicion it was Vernon.

I still can't find any reference to "the classic change" though.

From memory, there are actually six methods described in Erdnase. Obviously, the first is best known due to its mix of simplicity and impact.

:D Blademaster, once I get xmas and the New Year out of the way I'll get around to laying down some transforms on video.

Is erdnase, the classic change?
Although I have never seen it referred to in this manner, I think it probably is; for many it is certainly the classic change.

Anyone else want to throw some video together.

Here's my nugget of knowledge on this matter:

Brad Christian on Ninja 1 (or at least on the packaging for the dvd) makes a point of saying that this is not the erdnase change, it's actually the houdini change. But on the DVD menu it's called the Classic Colour Change.

Jay Sankey however refer's to it on Revolutionary Card Magic as the erdnase/houdini change.

Anyone else have light to shine on this?

I can't find it in my copy, but it is fairly old. Is it under Chapter 13 Flourishes?

EDIT: I think my copy of RRTCM may be older than a few members of this forum.

EDIT: Actually, thats not really a laughing matter.

Okay, so far we have:
  • Two Handed Transformation, First Method
  • The Erdnase Colour Change
  • The Houdini Change
  • The Classic Colour Change

The first two are valid, the second being its common name. The third has been independently used by two different sources. The last has thus far only been spotted on Ninja 1.

I don't have much on Houdini and nothing from ellusionist, so someone else needs to dig into their library.

Alright hands down this is how it seems. It was created by Erdnase and is therefore named after him. Now because it is so common and normally the basic change is has been dubbed as the Classic Change. Its like how the Classic Pass was named. Cardini has nothing to do with it. And I guess Brad likes to call it the two hand transformation. Problem solved.

:?: Do you read any of the previous posts before you comment?

Your etymology for these terms is incorrect.

Two Handed Transformation, First Method
This is the oldest name given to this sleight. First reference 1902, by Erdnase himself.

The Erdnase Colour Change
This is the common name. Age unknown, but cannot be older than 1902.
I would suggest that it is of this period, and since Dai Vernon was fanatical about Erdnase I would suggest he was the originator. I would suggest circa 1910.

The Houdini Change
We so far have two modern references for this term. I have found nothing in my pitifully small houdini material. Again the reference is probably of its time circa 1920. I wouldn't however put it past Houdini to have named it himself, especially after the whole Ambitious Card incident.

The Classic Change
The only reference we have for this is Ninja 1. So far circa 2005.

If anyone else can throw anymore light on these I would be grateful.

No its not what we are referring to as the Erdnase change. It is close to method 2 in Erdnase though.

Perhaps a colour change expert could provide us with the common name?

Well, The common name is the Erdnase Colour Change

Ask your self, how many times have you heard it been called the others?

Maybe a few times, then think about how mnay times it has been reffered to as the Erdnase Colour Change
