I get this question every time after I do a trick. I always answer with with it's magic. I don't like that and want to know how you should answer this question. Thank you

same way you do but with more panache

a lot of practise and natural charisma

i usally like to give them the karate explination, you just punch them and run off

The classic Blackstone response; "Any child of four can do what I do... after twenty years of practice."

"I do it quite well, why?"

Another Blackstone Classic;

Harry: "Can you keep a secret?"

Spectator's response: "Yes"

Harry: "Great, I can too..."


The one I love was when a client asked my step-daughter how I did the things they saw in my Murder Mystery show (a psychic show). She said, I know how he does the magic show stuff but when he does this I simply haven't a clue.

I usually reply:
"Well, I could tell you......."
To which they usually add:
"Yea yea, please do "
Then I add:
"But, I'd have to kill you"

This sometimes invokes the response:
"Yea, whatever. Just f***ing tell me. At least I'll have the pleasue of knowing how the f*** you just did that." This is a typical response for the trick "Out Of This World."
You'd be surprised at how desperate some mere mortals are, to learn the secrets of some tricks

I have to say. I love to tell to people when they say how do you that. I usally just lol and then say I have no clue. Thats one of my favorite responses.

If I do the biddle trick and they go how did you do that, then I say Ok, I will show you.

Then I show them the Invisible Palm

Good call! I do something similar to that with my ACR i show them a stupidly obvious move and then just say i do it really fast though, so when i do the trick again they are looking for me to bring my hand around and scoop a card out of an impossible place!

They normally realise then that its not how its done

who says its magic? I know some people do after someone asking how it was done

Me personally i say to kids that its magic, to adults i say its weird isnt it!! i normally act more surprised by the trick than they do, gives it a nicer feel than
"ok i know what is happening and i can tell you your card is on top and with a smug smile i shall show you the card on top because im so great"

I just go along with the ride of it all

How did you do that?

Not so much a favourite as it once was for me is:
"I cheated".

One I use more is:
"I have no idea, I was hoping you could tell me..."

Or one that just sprung into my head a second ago:
"If I knew that... I'd make a fortune!"

I just explain them I do tricks to entertain them, if I'd tell the secret there would be no fun in it.

And sometimes for poking fun:

Reply "you should be asking why do I do that"

or "it must be magic, cos it's not skill!"

Someone said that they always say this once, and i always do it now:

Them: Wow, how did you do that?
Me: Do what?
Them: Well, You kinda <insert effect here>
Me: What? Thats impossible! How do you do that?

Or some kind of variation of that!
