Er, whilst I can fully understand the emotion behind that reply, please bear in mind that we should try to be courteous at all times otherwise we just get a slanging match going which does nobody any good, least of all TM.

Apologies Mandrake, I did not intend to flair any arguments here, but I couldn't help but feel that Gary's comment was rather condescending.

We aren't all expert magicians here and not everyone knows what gimmicks and props can be used to produce a fountain of coins from thin air, me being one of them. We can do without being belittled by people with comments like that.

However, I have an unnaturally large tendency towards sarcasm, which I have no excuse for and I apologise.

Not trying to start an arguement but that statement isn't something that I'd like to hear. Yes, I am rarely "dazzled" by other people's magic because I myself am a magician. But this trick, the fact that it was so amazing got me wondering and absolutely freaked out. Ok... so what if I'm amazed? The fact that I am means that I think it's a good trick and makes me want to buy it!

If you want to impress someone with someone elses trick, do you not get impressed at first sight? That's the reason we buy effects! Because we were once impressed (maybe still).

One of the main points of such effects is to entertain and if that's achieved by amazing people then even better. Some folks react with confusion, some with awe, some with absolutely no reaction at all. Even if you know the particular trick or routine, there's still some mileage is watching someone else do it and perhaps admiring their presentation and patter. I'm not all that keen to be the spec for something I already know but am very happy to stand alongside and watch. I'm rarely disappointed and can enjoy the performance for what it is, even though others will be reacting to the 'magic' of the trick as well.

He must be a trillionaire if he does that every night. I wonder if he can do it with bills? :)

Larry wrote:that's very impressive!
i was wondering how to do the matrixy looking bit at the start.
but after that bit where he just spread his hand acorss the front of the table and a load of coins appeared it just wreaked too much of a gimmicked table.
but still, WOW.

and don't take away our ability to be impressed by magic, when we stop being amazed by other peoples magic, then the magic is lost!

I agree with you so much. When you impress somebody with magic, it makes the trick just that much better. :)

There's a version of this that Dean Dill does. I saw it on the LVMI 2003 DVD and I don't think he uses a gimmicked table (however, I say nothing about the coins). It is really good though. It's called (Silent) "Explosion".

He's certainly using a gimmick pad like this:

Edit - Disregard this statement if you saw it. I didn't realize this image came directly from Dean Dill's web site. If that's up on the web, I suppose it's ok to post it here.

My apologies.
