concaved bicycles!?!?

Postby Larry » Jan 30th, '06, 19:31

about a year ago a friend bought me a pack of green bikes while we were in Spain (due to me loving the colour green, simple as). and i finally got round to opening them today. and i've found that each card is oh so sleightly concave, or convex depending on the way you're looking at it i guess.
they're currently sitting under the entirity of Card College to flatten them out a bit. will it work?
but for importantly, what caused this in the first place?
factory defect perhaps?

Does it really matter to be honest? Just bend the cards back to normal with your hands. That's what I'd do. It might've been because of the heat in Spain?

Or, just use the concavity to your advantage and do something with it. It might be useful in some trick or another. I would use it for one handed faros etc.

Some packs of bikes just go like that i think. Normally When they get too hot, but sometimes they just warp during shipping. I have a pack of coca cola bicycles that were warped but a good bend in the opposite direction taught them their lesson! Shame i never use them though now.

One thing that i found with an older pack that was a bit concaved through too much use (it was also a little bit sticky and didnt fan very well) was if you put it in a zip lock bag and shove in the freezer for a bit, it seems to sort itself out! I cant remember why i tried this in the first place, and im not saying that its guaranteed to work, but its worth a try. Mine even fanned perfectly as well.

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

I have a belly stripped deck that came like that. I think it's probably been damp. The thing is, the combination of a brand new stripped and naturally concave deck must be useful in a way I can't see, so I can't bring myself to throw it out.

Must be the opposite of CUPS...

must've been the heat in spain then!
and yeah, i just cant throw them out.
although i've discovered now i can do i haunted deck trick with them without having to actually put a crimp the deck.
they just.... don't feel right to handle is all.... it'll be alright no doubt

Yeah, it probably was the heat as I have read on ther forums that some Americans say that there cards warp like that on a hot day.

Yeah I've had a deck like this. I've found you can 'pop' the deck either way. This means you can effectively crimp half of the deck, so you can have a break btween the 2 halves of teh deck without having to touch hold it. So have a card selected, sandwich it in the deck, put the deck on the table, then come back later for a control or whatever.

I never used it like this by the way ;)

[edit] woops just read Larry's post properly
